At the University of Manitoba, what inspires you can change everything.The opportunity: Reporting to the Manager, Marketing & Communications, this position has a portfolio that is integral to the overall reputation and success of the Asper School of Business. The copywriter will primarily support the School’s written communication needs and will work collaboratively with the School’s Marketing and Communications Team comprised of the Manager of Marketing and Communications, Marketing Officer, Communications Specialist and Graphic Designer to develop written content to promote the diverse and complementary activities taking place at the Asper School of Business. This includes the consideration of the internal audience within the Faculty and across the university and the external audience, comprised of alumni, the business community, current and new international and domestic students, and the community the school operates in.With direction and oversight of the Manager, Marketing and Communications, the copywriter will be responsible for creating compelling, original, brand-driven copy for a range of platforms to support the Asper School of Business strategic priorities and accomplish marketing and communications objectives. The copy writer will create and edit original copy that is accurate, well-researched and meets the brands needs and deadlines. This includes the development of stories to be published on UM Today, advertising copy for digital and print marketing materials, speech writing and messaging development for the Dean. The role will also include significant copy editing and proofreading.The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

  • A undergraduate degree required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of related experience working in marketing and communications, journalism, and public relations required.
  • Experience writing, proofreading, interviewing, and updating required.
  • Proven experience as a copywriter.
  • Speech writing experience is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of University regulations and experience in an Academic environment preferred, or experience in a not-for-profit work environment is considered an asset.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • An ability to understand and develop a consistent brand narrative while considering communications nuances between audiences required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, and the ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and patience to work in harmony with all levels of faculty, staff, students and the public required.
  • A creative and innovative approach to communications required.
  • Ability to make sound independent judgments and utilize problem-solving abilities required.
  • Ability to learn and retain detailed information quickly required.
  • Proven ability to independently prioritize work and meet deadlines, organizational and time management skills required.
  • Ability to organize and manage projects and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and other communication professionals required.
  • Receptive to feedback required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision required.
  • Professional communication skills, written and verbal, are essential.
  • Proven and strong attention to detail in written communications is essential.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
