Job Description

Summary:Reporting to the Senior Manager of Supply Chain and overseen by the Customs & Brokerage Supervisor, the Customs & Brokerage Specialist is responsible for processing customs and brokerage documents in an accurate and timely manner, resolving variances, supporting the Supervisor in current department processes, identifying process improvement opportunities, and implementing process changes to increase efficiency and streamline department operations.Responsibilities:

  • Complete project work as assigned.
  • Communicate with broker to approve international transactions based on documents provided or obtained from the vendor.
  • Provide interpretation and assistance to category management team for proper Harmonized System classification, duty percentage, and freight factor on new or existing products.
  • Review freight factor calculation in comparison to SAP.
  • Audit customs entry summaries (broker invoices) to ensure documentation and calculations are correct and post for payment.
  • Review and correct duty percentage variances.
  • Communicate with vendors and internal departments to resolve discrepancies that affect compliance with Canada Border Services Agency.
  • Organize broker invoices with duties and taxes recorded for monthly reconciliation and remittance to the receiver general.
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
  • 4+ years related experience in customs & brokerage, and/or supply chain & logistics.
  • Experience dealing with brokers, forwarders, systems, and alternate methods of operating.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field.
  • Understanding of Global Supply Chain best practices.
  • Process improvement and project management experience is an asset.
  • SAP and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) experience is an asset.
  • Ability to adapt to change in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Superior organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, and Word.
