Job Description

  • Administers the database, considering issues such as sizing, disaster recovery, data backup/restore procedures, and access/security;
  • Implements database solutions based on requirements received from software developers.
  • Monitors database performance, using tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager, and performs tuning to optimize performance;
  • Participates in the development, control and maintenance of the corporate data dictionary, ensuring corporate data integrity;
  • Works within defined standards, policies and procedures, like change management, version control, and data standards;
  • Evaluates, and recommends tools/utilities related to database management;
  • Provides database support services to other staff, such as SQL techniques for developers;
  • Participates as a resource in projects, under formal project management. This includes providing estimates of work effort for tasks in a project;
  • Provides on-call after hours support for overnight production systems; and,
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a computer related program, with 2-4 years related experience preferably in a production environment or a combination of education and experience;
  • Must have previously demonstrated a solid understanding of business needs, data structures, design, security administration, software development and back up / recovery of databases.
  • Previous experience with Oracle (on Linux) and/or Microsoft SQL Server databases;
  • Demonstrated ability to work within strict timelines while managing multiple projects/tasks at once;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills;
  • Must be able to work independently or in a team environment;
  • Self-starter with solid problem solving and decision making skills considering short and long term implications; and,
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
