Job Description

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible and accountable for analyzing and developing databases: adapts conceptual and logical data models to enterprise model, analyzes database relative to other databases; creates, refines and distributes conceptual and logical data models, identifies access and concurrency requirements, identifies backup and recovery requirements and creates a recovery plan.
  • Responsible and accountable for developing and implementing databases: develops and validates database implementation plan, develops back and front-end connectivity, develops physical database characteristics and defining user interfaces, installs and deploys database and produces business and technical documentation.
  • Responsible and accountable for performing database administration and maintenance: administers and enforces standards, analyzes monitoring data, audits database systems, maintains physical organization of database objects, plans and manages physical resource requirements and enhancements.
  • Responsible and accountable for performing database testing: develops test plan and system, develops test procedures, documents test results and makes recommendations and performs tests.
  • Responsible and accountable for providing data assurance: designs and documents security plan, gathers and documents security requirements, implements and enforces security requirements, maintains and improves security in response to industry developments and user experience and protects corporate data.
  • Responsible and accountable for providing database client and user services: adapts existing structure to new business environments, provides and supports development and production environments.
  • Responsible and accountable for carrying out special projects as assigned.
  • Employees are required to keep strictly confidential the affairs of anyone whose private information becomes available to them in the course of their duties.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation and experienceThe qualifications for this position would typically be acquired through the completion of a post-secondary program in computing/system development and 3-5 years of experience as a database analyst/administrator. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.Key Occupational Skills
  • Good planning, organizational, analytical, interpersonal, leadership, decision making, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Expertise with SQL, Microsoft SQL Server database administration, backup and recovery, replication and performance tuning
  • Experience with Transact-SQL development and SQL Server Integration Services
  • Experience with Oracle databases an asset
  • Experience with SDLC and Agile Scrum methodologies an asset
  • Experience with SSRS and Power BI an asset
  • Experience with Qlik, Redgate, and Quest tools an asset
  • Experience with source control such as git and subversion an asset
