Job Description

This position provides support through a multi-sensory approach in language and all academic areas, enabling children to achieve maximum potential. The incumbent provides support to student(s) who are deaf or hard of hearing in the regular classroom and resource room setting. The successful candidate requires the ability to work as a team member with good communication and interpersonal skills.Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Provides graphic notetaking for all school related activities including co-curricular activities, parent meetings, etc.
  • Summarizes information as required
  • Adapts the language level of verbal information to meet student needs
  • Provides assistance and support to students within the integrated classroom and resource room settings (e.g. clarifies verbal instructions, checks comprehension of class information, and reviews and reinforces concepts)
  • Maintains detailed records of student progress and behaviours
  • Checks and troubleshoots students’ amplification equipment
  • Attends program meetings and shares information regarding the student as part of the educational team
  • Supervises students as required (may include bus, lunch break or recess duty)
  • Administers medication following established procedures when required
  • Prepares instructional materials as required
  • Other duties when required
Qualifications:
  • Complete secondary education or equivalent related experience
  • Minimum 60+ wpm keyboarding speed
  • previous experience working or interacting with deaf and hard of hearing persons
  • Knowledge and experience with computerized notetaking or willingness to learn
  • Valid First Aid, CPR and NVCI certificates
