Job Title:ELP InstructorProgram Name:January IntensiveFebruary IntensiveCourse Name:English in the WorkplaceCourse Number:ESHORT-42013Start Date:January - January 9, 2023February – January 30, 2023End Date:January - February 3, 2023February – February 24, 2023Class Time:Monday to Thursday Afternoons12:30-2:20pm (M/W), 1:00-3:00 pm (T/Th)Location:University of Winnipeg campusStipend:$ 645.00Today’s Date:October 20, 2022Position Overview:The English Language Program at The University of Winnipeg is seeking an English in the Workplace Workshop Instructor as part of the Canadian Workplace Experience Program.The Canadian Workplace Experience Program consists of intensive English classroom study followed by a placement at a local host organization that allows students to immerse themselves in an authentic professional Canadian work environment in order to improve their professional communication skills. The English in the Workplace Workshop gives students the skills to be successful in their placementThis posting will be used to hire for January & February Intensive terms based on student enrollmentResponsibilities:

  • Course preparation and outline in accordance with Program requirements
  • Lesson / lecture preparation
  • Attendance management
  • Teaching
  • Student contact including providing assessment and constructive feedback to students
  • Participation in placement testing, staff meetings, orientations and graduation ceremonies
  • Preparation and creation of assessments
  • Marking and grading
  • Other duties as assigned
Education and Qualifications:
  • TESL Certificate or CELTA required
  • Undergraduate degree required
  • Minimum 1 year experience designing and implementing activities and exercises addressing different themes and topics related to Canadian Workplaces
  • Knowledge of Canadian workplace culture, professionalism and attitudes
  • Knowledge of creating and implementing needs assessments
  • Experience providing informal student assessments and formal student evaluation
  • Knowledge and experience implementing various classroom management techniques
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiating, and conflict-resolution skills to deal effectively with a wide variety of situations
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs and issues of a diverse student body
Online Teaching Qualifications:
  • Able to accommodate student needs
    • Keep students up to date on their progress
    • Accessibility - respond in a timely method
    • Adaptability – handle the unexpected
    • Clearly articulate expectations in assignments and assessments
    • Flexible to students’ changing personal situations
  • Technological competency
    • Well trained in online teaching
    • Ability to communicate in a variety of modes
  • Comfortable communicating in writing
    • Provide timely but well thought out responses
  • Understands that facilitated learning as important as traditional learning
    • Direct a conversation
    • Take an active role in the learning process
    • Encourage the creation of a community of learners
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience instructing resume writing and interview skills considered an asset
  • Experience instructing oral and written communication specific to the workplace considered an asset
  • Experience instructing common business and workplace vocabulary, idiomatic language and grammar considered an asset
  • Experience using online teaching platforms considered an asset
  • Knowledge of a language additional to English considered an asset
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.Condition(s) of Employment:
