Join an innovative, growing, and diverse organization where your voice matters.THE POSITION:The Embedded Systems Design Engineer is part of a core team that will be assisting in solidifying and expanding our capabilities in the electrification and illumination space. Our team is responsible for the development and launch of a wide variety of products, ranging from an Electric Vehicle Communication Controller to various illuminated signage and lithium battery charging systems. Work in a space where the sky is the limit for you to flex your designing capabilities, where you will be challenged to think outside the box. You will be supporting the current customer platform and developing complementary products to the EVCC.SMG seeks experienced out-of-the-box designers for ARM based systems running bare metal, FreeRTOS, and embedded Linux. HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING AN IMPACT:
  • Develop system-level requirements based on customer needs and industry best practices.
  • Design schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Prepare technical drawings for components and assemblies.
  • Design test fixtures and define production test processes.
  • Develop and execute design verification and validation (DV/V) plans.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to support product procurement and resolve engineering issues.
  • Work with the engineering team to design products and manage production, ensuring timely, on-budget, and satisfactory project completion.
  • Participate in vendor qualification activities.
  • Support project hand-off to the manufacturing team.
  • Engage in new product development aligned with company strategy.
  • Conduct market research as needed.
  • Contribute to the development of system-level architecture.
  • Assist in developing project plans and customer quotations by estimating engineering effort, schedules, and project budgets.
WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE YOU REQUIRE:
  • Hold a BSc in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, a Diploma in Electronics Engineering Technology, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ARM-based systems running FreeRTOS and embedded Linux.
  • Design systems using ARM Cortex-M and Cortex-R series microcontrollers.
  • Design systems with ARM Cortex-A microprocessors, including DDR2 and DDR3 memory.
  • Apply experience with LED lighting circuitry and battery charging systems.
  • Understand system and environmental requirements for vehicle applications.
  • Apply knowledge of CAN Bus communication protocols.
  • Define and execute component- and system-level test plans.
  • Debug electronics, perform board bring-up, and conduct low-level troubleshooting.
  • Design electronic devices/systems for transportation, agriculture, and/or construction vehicles (asset).
  • Understand and apply FMEA principles and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) guidelines.
  • Use design and verification testing methods.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Apply project management, leadership, and presentation skills (asset).
  • Work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Maintain a high level of organization, attention to detail, and analytical thinking.
  • Communicate clearly and collaborate with customers and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Work independently with a strong, diligent work ethic.
  • Travel within Canada, the USA, and internationally, as required.
