Preference given to Indigenous candidates.Position SummaryFunctioning as part of a coordinated service delivery team, the Family Support Worker (FSW) works proactively with pregnant youth, children and families associated with the Mothering Project and Anne Ross Day Nursery, offering a range of support services that build on the strengths of the family and give the children an optimal opportunity for healthy growth and development. The FSW is a relationship-builder and advocate and provides service in a non-judgmental and culturally appropriate manner, helping families to build new skills and achieve their goals.QualificationsEducation- ECE II/III certification with specialization in inclusion support, children with special needs or equivalent- Education/training in human ecology, child development, applied counselling or a Family Support Worker Certificate- Must have driver’s license and reliable vehicleService Delivery Skills, Expertise and Experience- Minimum of 2 years’ experience working successfully with young people/children, including those with additional support needs- Experience working with families in marginalized communities and community agencies- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with families and children from diverse groups- Comprehensive knowledge of community resources for parents, families and childrenCritical SkillsProven knowledge and ability in relationship-building, facilitation, decision-making, problem-solving and conflict resolution skillsFocus on ResultsDemonstrated ability to prioritize and focus work-related activities to effectively and efficiently achieve service goals and produce expected results/outcomesAlignment with Organizational ValuesCommitment to the principles that guide Mount Carmel Clinic, as reflected in the history, vision, mission and valuesIndigenous UnderstandingKnowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture and traditions and the impact of colonization on the health and well-being of Indigenous individuals and familiesInterdisciplinary Team, CollaborationProven ability to work within an interdisciplinary team environment with respect, professionalism, cooperation, sensitivity and cultural awarenessMCC PhilosophiesStrong knowledge, commitment and demonstrated ability to apply diversity, equity, cultural safety, pro-choice, social determinants of health, population health, harm reduction, trauma-informed and community development principles in all aspects of the workCommunicationExcellent verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in the use of computer systemsAssetsUnderstanding of childhood development modelsBona Fide Occupational RequirementGender is a bona fide occupational requirement: this position is open to self-identifying female applicants onlyAll positions are subject to Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry checks.
