Job Description – Field Program Technician (term)CANTERRA SEEDS is committed to sourcing genetically superior seed products that deliver agronomic and economic benefits for farmers, while meeting end-user needs. With a versatile portfolio of cereals, pulses, special crops, canola, and PRIDE Seeds corn, CANTERRA SEEDS seeks opportunities for mutual success in the agriculture industry.Position OverviewThe Field Program Technician will work to support the Field Program Agronomist in executing theCANTERRA SEEDS field research trials and seed product demonstration program. This position will be based out of CANTERRA SEEDS Winnipeg office and travelling will be required to various sites inManitoba and Saskatchewan. This position is a multitasking role which includes organization, field trial management, and hands on jobs ensuring high quality field research trials, data, and the success of field demonstration plots.Responsibilitieso Assist with seed setup, seed packaging, envelope printing, and overall organizationo Driving required on daily bases to field sites to execute field operationso Assist the Field Program Agronomist:

  • Site preparation (as required)
  • Seeding including operating small tractor and/or seeder/planter
  • Staking, labelling and/or signing of demonstration site locations, trials, plots, etc.
  • Plot maintenance including weed control, manual rogueing, general site maintenance
  • Plot harvest including operation of plot combine, bagging, as required
  • Post-harvest site cleanup
  • Submit progress reports in-season to Field Program Agronomist, as required
  • Operate field program equipment as needed, training to be provided
o Understanding of crop protection products (herbicides, insecticides, fungicides) is an asseto Tracking, recording and maintenance of warehouse seed and field equipment inventorieso Harvest sample sorting, drying, organizing, and processing for grain quality data as requiredo Operate seed lab equipment such as seed counter, scales, NIR, moisture meter, etc.o Implement equipment and vehicle sanitation protocolso Follow all corporate and workplace health and safety related guidelines and protocolso Assist with other duties as assignedo Driving: Pursue Class 3 learner license and when experience and training warrants obtain a class 3 license (optional)Qualifications: o Student of Diploma or B. Sc. Agricultureo Farm background or experience with small plot trialing an asset, but not necessaryo Valid class-5 driver’s licenseo Comfortable to work independent, goal-oriented, and solution driveno Ability to work additional hours during seeding and harvest operationso Strong verbal and written communication skillso Ability to travelJob Type: Fixed term contractContract length: 6-7 monthsSchedule:

  • Monday to Friday
