The GED/ high school program in Winnipeg supports people age 15 and up to take the GED exam or complete high school.Frontier College is a national charity that was founded in 1899.Our work environment includes:

The GED/ high school support program is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba and is funded by Scotiabank through the RISE program. This is a new program that works with youth and adults aged 15 and up and strives to support people in completing high school or taking the GED exam.The Intern works closely with the Instructor Coordinators to provide specific program and/or administrative support while building their leadership skills and developing professional networks. Generally, interns are youth aged 18-30 who are looking for professional development through a paid contract opportunity. Interns may be hired into any functional department or region in which Frontier College works. Ideally, interns are hired from communities in which Frontier College does its work.Your main responsibilities and major duties:
  • Assist with planning & delivering engaging activities and curriculum for adult learning sessions, that may include up to 10 individuals at a time
  • Support learners with core subjects (Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies)
  • Assist with managing effective relationships with community partners
  • Assist with the preparation of training materials and learner resources for programs
  • Build relationships with adult learners to provide encouragement and targeted support
  • Assist with conducting evaluations with learners
  • Help raise public awareness about Frontier College, its mandate and programs

  • Robust understanding of the barriers that youth and adults face in educational settings
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, lively and changing environment
  • Adaptable, self-motivated, responsible, enthusiastic, creative
  • Positive, friendly, and approachable disposition
  • Demonstrated experience working with groups of youth or adults
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and public speaking skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to take initiative
  • Commitment to literacy work and the Frontier College mission statement

Additional Assets:
  • Internet connection
  • Previous knowledge and experience with Frontier College programs
  • An interest in a career in teaching, social work, community development would be ideal
  • Familiarity with GED curriculum
  • Proficiency with MS Suite and Google Suite
  • Personal experience with alternative education settings
Job Type: Fixed term contractContract length: 6 monthsSalary: $15.65 per hourFlexible Language Requirement:
