Job Description

General Superintendent - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CanadaSouthland Holdings is currently accepting resumes for highly motivated General Superintendent to manage a large wastewater treatment plant project in Canada. This individual must have a strong background in deep excavation, large diameter utilities, pile driving and process equipment installation.The General Superintendent will assist in the execution of and direct the following activities:

  • Responsible for ensuring that a safe workplace remains the top priority by partnering with the Safety department, Safety committee, and Project Management to support policies, procedures and practices for establishing a safe workplace.
  • Control job progress by managing Subcontractors, solving problems and conflicts, using proper documentation, quality control and safety control techniques on the job.
  • Control project costs by weekly evaluation of labor, material, and equipment costs.
  • Oversee field productivity, cost control, quality control and scheduling to ensure accurate and updated construction schedules and budgets are being met.
  • Work with field and project management personnel to address cost and schedule concerns.
  • Take an active part in job start / job close meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with Project Management to troubleshoot job challenges and update job status.
  • Communicate and enforce company policies and procedures with field personnel and Subcontractors.
  • Provide Leadership through building cooperative relationships, acting systemically, being decisive and taking responsibility.
  • Display leadership by being a good role model and striving to promote a positive attitude at all times.
  • Always act in a professional manner.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience within the heavy civil construction industry
  • Background in water pipeline, sewer pipe, water/wastewater treatment, pump stations
  • Proficient with Outlook, Excel and Common Scheduling Programs a plus
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents including drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and the project schedule
  • Solid written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong leadership qualities.
  • Hold Jobsite Progress Meetings.
  • Ability to schedule in house crews and subcontractors.
  • Must be competent at performing complete and accurate project take offs
  • Proficiency with industry practices, processes and standards
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • OSHA certification, Fall Protection, Rigging, Trench safety, Confined space, First aid / CPR Certification.
