BULLETIN NUMBER 509/P/22 DATE POSTED: August 29, 2022SCHOOL GLENWOOD SCHOOLCOMMENCING: September 6, 2022 to June 30, 2023 unless sooner rescindedCOMPENSATION: Educational Assistant 1 Payband $27.38 to $32.94HOURS: 5.5 hours per dayPOSITION DESCRIPTION:This position requires the incumbent to support students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing and perform tasks as assigned bythe school administrator(s) and/or teacher(s). The incumbent will be responsible for providing interpreting/translatingservices to designated student(s) and teacher(s) while providing tutorial and educational assistance to designatedstudent(s).REQUIRED AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:• must be fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), with proven ability to translate and interpret• completion of related area of post-secondary education is required• completion of recognized Interpreter Training Program and/or equivalent skills and training• knowledge and ability to assist students with high school curriculum• First Aid and CPR training an asset (completed within the probationary period (90 working days)• experience working with children/adolescents who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing an asset• excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills• strong problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret situations accurately and to act accordingly within Divisionalexpectations• demonstrated ability to work as a team member• a positive outlook with a belief in the ethic of caring and inclusion• completion of Working Effectively with Violent and Aggressive Students (WEVAS) or equivalent training is stronglypreferred• valid Manitoba Driver’s licence, driver’s abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle may be required• knowledge and experience working with physically, behaviourally and cognitively challenged students• strong knowledge of or training in crisis intervention, anger and behaviour management techniques• demonstrated ability to explain concepts and issues to children and develop rapport with students, on a one-to-onebasis and in group settings• ability to assist in the area of personal care needs may be required• ability to support student participation and participate in swim programming may be required• ability to meet physical demands of position which may include lifting or transferringAPPLICATION PROCEDURE:The Louis Riel School Division is committed to employment equity and accessibility.
