Become part of a strong and successful company that’s trusted by millions of Canadians to do the right thing.Be your best at Canada Life.We are looking for a Group Underwriter.The Group Insurance Underwriter is directly responsible for assessing the risk and making decisions associated with the sale, amendment and renewal of assigned cases, as well as providing financial reports to clients. The underwriter role is suited to the inquisitive individual who enjoys continuous learning and applying their knowledge in varied scenarios. In this role you will be exposed to the entire lifespan of a client and interact with all Group departments. We will provide successful candidates with a potential career path to more senior underwriting levels.You will be accountable for:

  • Managing the pricing of assigned in-force caseload, including performing the annual renewal of rates and expenses, in-force quotes, marketings and approvals of amendments
  • The management of all aspects of the financial reporting for an assigned caseload
  • Handling field/client/consultant inquiries, plan changes, reporting needs
  • Quotation of New Business prospects
  • Meet with the AVP Underwriting Plan Sponsor GC as appropriate respecting specified authority levels
  • Production of financial and service agreements on assigned caseload
  • Act as an Underwriting resource for various projects and departmental initiatives
Required Competencies and Behaviours:
  • Candidates must have post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in partnership with sales offices, team members and other internal areas
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks and shifting priorities
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Customer service focused
  • Strong mathematical and analytical ability
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills
  • Prior experience in the Group Customer Division with knowledge of products, Group Mainframe (PAS) system, and GroupNet Reporting will be considered an asset
  • Willingness to work towards a GBA or full CEBS designation under the CEBS program
