Job Description

How would you like to be a part of something new Opening in the fall of 2022, Bergen Gardens will be a dynamic and forward-thinking senior living and memory care experience.We are seeking a Head Chef this building for seniors. This role will be an integral part of building the infrastructure of Bergen Gardens before its Grand Opening in the fall of 2022. Working in the area of Food Services with the possibility of advancing to leadership of Housekeeping, Laundry and Maintenance teams, this candidate models person-directed care and takes an active role in building community and promoting wellness for the seniors who will reside at Bergen Gardens.Responsibilities:

  • Person-Directed Care: Ensure all operations are performed in a person-directed care environment.
  • Safety and Risk Management: Operates in risk management and continuous quality improvement to provide the highest possible standard of care to those who live at Bergen Gardens.
  • Leadership: Plan, organize, direct and co-ordinate the overall management of home environment services ensuring that the quality standards for Edison Properties are met.
  • Leadership: Work closely with the Home Environment Coordinator to develop and give the Food Service Team a strategic direction to achieve the maximum potential.
  • Financial: Participate in and monitor the budgeting process for the department in conjunction with the Home Environment Coordinator and the Executive Director to manage operations within the determined budget.
  • Senior Care: Evaluate team needs on an ongoing basis and ensure that there are appropriate staffing patterns and levels in all areas of support services for Bergen Gardens.
  • Human Resources: Work to provide opportunities for future growth and development for the Food Services Team.
Required Qualifications:
  • A certificate in institutional food preparation and have at least one year of leadership experience preferably in a health care setting with leadership abilities/initiative to effectively oversee programs and services. Senior care or long-term care experience would be considered an asset.
  • Practical working knowledge of computers, devices, and associated programs/apps.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills in English. An ability to speak a second language is considered an asset.
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, concern, and interest in providing quality care and service to our seniors.
  • Ability to interrelate well with others and establish positive relationships with seniors, their families, other staff members, volunteers, and the public.
  • Quick adaptation in a progressive change-oriented environment.
  • Able to work independently, evaluate progress and take responsibility to grow.
  • A genuine interest in learning more about person-directed care and how it applies to our work within our community of seniors.
