Job Description

Heavy Equipment Operator Location: Pinawa, ManitobaSchedule: Four (4) - 10 hour days - Monday to ThursdayJob SummaryUnder the direction of the Project Supervisor, perform safe and efficient operation of site heavy equipment and fleet vehicles within The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Heavy Equipment Operator (HEO) classification, providing support to site maintenance and decommissioning projects and other duties as assigned.Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) Employees perform all duties in accordance with established health and safety and regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (i.e. utilizing personal protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies management or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers or any other on the premises in a timely manner and in accordance with established reporting requirements.QualificationsEducation

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with Manitoba Class 1 Driver’s License with Air Endorsement.
Experience
  • Must have three (3) years’ experience in operation of related heavy equipment, with minimum 1000 hrs/yr operating time.
  • Experience in building demolition and trench excavation.
Abilities and Skills
  • Skills and ability to operate heavy equipment in a safe and efficient manner for the purpose of site maintenance, building demolition, excavations, movement of materials, snow removal, and specific CNL project requirements as needed.
  • Must be able to safely operate a John Deere 210GLC Track Excavator, Caterpillar 924H Wheel Loader, a Galion 25 Ton Mobile Crane, a John Deere 333E Track Skid Steer, John Deere 470G with long reach stick, XR7038 Telehandler, demolition attachments including jackhammer shear and pulverizer or equivalent equipment as well as small excavation equipment, highway tractors, and general fleet vehicles as required.
  • Must be eligible for and able to obtain Mobile Crane Operator Exemption Permit from the Province of Manitoba as required.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks (visual walk-about) for operational safety of equipment and document in logbook.
  • Read and understand engineered drawings.
  • Read, understand and follow survey grades and levels.
  • Ability to communicate using cell phone, two-way radio, telephone and log sheet.
  • Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Program.
  • Complete Group 3 Radiation course and all applicable online and classroom training set out by CNL.
Funtions and Responsibilities
  • Safe and efficient operation of all site and rental heavy equipment and fleet vehicles.
  • Making judgments on the working condition of all equipment and recommending required repairs.
  • Partake in job walk downs and pre job kick off meetings providing Job Safety Analysis (JSA) documentation as well as resource and equipment requirements.
  • Taking responsibility for the safety of the work involving the use of heavy equipment and for the safety of personnel in or near the work zone.
  • Taking responsibility to shut down the job, if there is a safety concern.
  • Selecting appropriate equipment for the job.
  • Securing loads and transportation of dangerous goods.
  • Provide pick-ups and deliveries of materials on a daily and weekly schedule.
  • On an intermittent basis, provides transportation to staff and visitors as directed by Lead Hand or Section Head.
  • Represents the department in a manner which demonstrates pride, competence, integrity and professionalism.
  • Must be able to pass a Reliability Security check.
  • Must follow and enforce company policies, procedures, and safety rules.
  • Honest, trustworthy, and respectful.
  • Must demonstrate sound work ethics.
  • Open to change.
  • Team player.
  • Physically capable of lifting, pulling, and managing heavy equipment and objects in all weather, prepared for both extreme hot and cold conditions.
