Job Description

New Directions is a social service agency offering a wide range of resources and services that foster the hopes and dreams of people and their communities.Community Homes for Children (CHC) is one of the many services offered by New Directions; this program provides homes for children and youth with behavioral and emotional difficulties. Our community-based resources promote a sense of belonging and provide opportunities to engage in a meaningful life. This is achieved by creating a home environment that welcomes the participation of the child or youth as a member, supporting his or her interests and goals, and helping maintain and strengthen the bond between the child or youth and his or her significant others. We provide an environment that is non-judgmental, safe and caring. Community Home for Children operates 24 hours, 7 days a week, in fast-paced shift staffed homes operated by New Directions. aResponsibilities for the Home Supervisor position include, but are not limited to:

  • Case management,
  • Counselling and developing treatment plans,
  • Supervising and evaluating staff,
  • Supporting children and youth living in the homes,
  • Orienting, training and scheduling staff,
  • Tracking home maintenance and repairs,
  • Budgeting, balancing and accounting for monthly expenditures and administrative duties,
  • Liaising with schools, neighbours, and social workers,
  • Working shifts and participating in the on-call rotation, including cooking and light housekeeping duties during applicable shifts.
Requirements:
  • Applicants must have a B.S.W./B.A. (psychology, social work, or related field) with experience working with children in care and knowledge of licensing regulations for children’s residential settings.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability and commitment to work with high needs children and youth.
  • Strong organizational skills are required for this position.
  • Ability to transfer knowledge and awareness into behaviors and expectations recognized as appropriate by members of identified cultures and by people with lived experience
  • Knowledge of behavioral management and trauma-informed strategies are assets.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working with Level 4/5 children and youth.
  • Valid driver’s license, access to a vehicle and current First Aid/CPR.
  • Supervisory experience and ability to work with and mentor staff.
  • Understanding of person-centered approach
  • American Sign Language (ASL), Microsoft Word processing skills and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training are considered assets.
aThe salary range for this 40 hour per week, full-time position is $19.83 to $27.78 per hour (equivalent to $41,426 to $57,782 annually) dependent upon education and/or experience.The successful candidate will be subject to Criminal Record, Child/Adult Abuse Registry, and Prior Contact checks; and must supply a current driver’s abstract.With a commitment to health and safety and in order to continue our mission “to provide responsive and individualized services”, New Directions for Children, Youth, Adults & Families requires proof of full vaccination against COVID-19, in a manner approved by Health Canada, as a condition of employment for all new employees.
