Qualifications:Essential:
  • Experience performing senior level legal administrative duties including extensive case file review and management
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting complex technical or legal documents, case files, procedures and related legislation to make appropriate recommendations or assessments
  • Excellent written communication skills including the ability to prepare legal documents and correspondence
  • Excellent verbal communication skills including the ability to speak publicly
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and maintain a high degree of accuracy
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to effectively interact and assertively negotiate with legal professionals, policing agencies, and the public
  • Effective organizational skills including the ability to identify priorities, manage a heavy workload and meet deadlines
  • Independent decision-making skills with the ability to exercise discretion and judgment
  • Ability to work independently and show initiative under minimal supervision.
  • Experience dealing effectively with confidential and sensitive material
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook or equivalent programs
  • The ability to adapt, learn and grow through challenge, pressure or adversity - resilience
Desired:
  • Knowledge of the criminal justice system within Manitoba and restorative justice principles
  • Experience using database programs including PRISM, COMS and CCAIN
  • Certificate in Legal Administration or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Duties:Reporting to the Manager, Intake and Disclosure, the paralegal appears on behalf of the Crown in provincial triage and administrative courts. Assesses case files for preparation, completeness and draws relevant information to the attention of the Crown Attorney.
