Helix has offices across Canada, with technical teams deployed in remote locations throughout the north.With offices across Canada, we are uniquely positioned to support national systems as well as local businesses in the areas we serve.Job Title: Intermediate Telecom TechnicianJob Grade Level: IntermediatePurpose: Telecom Technicians are responsible for installation of structured cabling, coaxial cabling, wireless access points, networkhardware, telephony systems, inside and outside plant fiber optic splicing, terminating, and testing.Responsibilities

  • Installation of structured cabling, coaxial cabling, wireless access points, network hardware, telephony systems, inside and outside plant fiber optic splicing, terminating, and testing. Installation and completion of aerial drop cables, OSP, and PSP cables both copper and fiber.
  • Build and prep fiber optic and copper splice closures (FOSCs) and fiber and copper multipair cables
  • Dress and mount aerial enclosures and cables. This may involve using a bucket truck, ladder, or climbing telecommunication poles with spurs. Working heights range from 15-40ft.
  • Dress and rack enclosures, panels and cables in pedestals, service boxes, vaults, racks and manholes.
  • Use of tools, Fusion Splicers, OTDR, OLTS, Power Meters, and Cat 6 testers to test, analyze, and troubleshoot fibre and copper Cables.
  • Read and interpret telecom design prints and update based on progress, changes, field findings.
  • Safely drive and maneuver vehicles into tight spaces and easements.
  • Analyze test results and have the ability to troubleshoot and correct any faults or defects.
  • Interpret and understand placing and splicing work plans.
  • Read and interpret work plans or job specifications to execute all work assigned safely and in accordance to the Company Health and Safety policy.
  • Work outdoors in various conditions
  • Climb poles, ladders and a variety of construction equipment to assist in the installation of telecommunication cables and apparatuses.
  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Accurately record and report project progress to the appropriate supervisory person and communicate any issues or expected delays.
  • Supervise and mentor junior technicians
  • Ensure time and expense forms are completed and submitted according to company policy and procedure
  • Maintain safe working conditions on all sites and locations by ensuring that all associates and contractors follow Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Experience and Training· 2 - 5 years related experience.· Must have a valid driver’s license, be able to produce a clean driver’s abstract and have reliable transportation.· Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check.· May be required to perform a security clearance and undergo pre access and random drug and alcohol testing.· Minimum safety requirements WHIMIS, CSTS-09, OSSA.· Must have a basic set of hand tools and safety wear, i.e., steel toe boots.· Good communication skills with the ability to work independently or in a team.· Demonstrated commitment to Health & Safety and willing to receive applicable training as per legislative and job requirements.· Physically able to perform job aspects in all weather conditions. (climb ladders, medium to heavy lifting up to 50 lbs).· Comfortable working at heights using ladders, spurs and bucket vans (up to 40 ft).· Comfortable working inside confined spaces such as telecom manhole and service vaults.· Fall Protection, AWP, Bucket Operator, Confined Space Entry, Gas Monitor, H2S Alive, Standard First Aid, CPR certificates are an asset.· Strong attention to detail and good problem-solving skills· Customer service orientated with strong communication skills· Works well within a team or independently.Working Conditions: · Walking, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping.· Physically able to perform all aspects of job in varying weather conditions (climb ladders, medium to heavy lifting 5 to 50 pounds)· Availability for evening, weekend, and holiday hours as required.· Work outdoors and indoors; occasionally in inclement weather.· Occasional travel may be required.Helix IT offers a healthy company culture, competitive wage, benefits, and opportunityfor advancement.Job Types: Full-time, PermanentBenefits:
