Job Description

Amsted Rail is a leading supplier to the rail industry through its manufacturing of castings, bearings, axles, wheels and brakes from its railroad product divisions. We are seeking an IT Specialist to provide support for the company’s PCs, servers, network and end-user support for the Winnipeg, MB facility. A strong understanding of Microsoft applications and Active Directory is required. Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • 3-5 years experience configuring computers and installing software for end-users, server network administration including Microsoft Active Directory administration, Group Policy Management, and backup technologies
  • Working knowledge of network engineering principles including basic cabling, TCP/IP, DNS and DHCP. Cisco switch/router experience is a plus.
  • Diagnostics and troubleshooting of computer system hardware and software
  • Experience managing SQL Server and SQL Reporting Services is desired
  • Programming knowledge is a plus
  • Strong customer service, troubleshooting and problem solving skills are required
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) for effective and successful interaction with all levels of staff and outside contacts
  • Personality Traits: Service-oriented, independent, self-starter, innovative, organized, passion for latest technologies
  • On-call availability and occasional evening/weekend work may be required
  • Occasional travel may be required to help support other Amsted Rail facilities in Canada and U.S.
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry is a plus.
Principal Accountabilities:
  • Participate in discussions with key business and production users in order to understand needs, define problems, recommend solutions and represent the Amsted Rail IT organization
  • Provide primary end-user support to plant and office personnel for all related IT hardware and software
  • Collaborate with the broader Amsted Rail IT organization for standards and support
  • Provide high-quality written system documentation as well as other written communications as required
  • Maintain inventory counts for all IT controlled hardware and software
  • Perform other duties as required
Educational Requirements
  • BS Degree in Information Technology/Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
  • Prefer a combination of industry technology certifications, such as MCP, MCSE, A+, CCNA, Visual Studio, .NET, C#, Visual C++, Visual F#, Visual Basic, and Jscript
