Job Description

As Circulation Supervisor you will interact with customers of all ages to help create a positive and welcoming library experience for all. Your primary responsibilities will be assisting customers with memberships and accounts as well as physical library materials and ensuring work is handled properly and promptly by circulation staff.As the Circulation Supervisor, you will:

  • Provide and supervise provision of public service at the Circulation desk.
  • Supervise, train and help evaluate Circulation staff.
  • Assist with scheduling staff and work for the Circulation area.
  • Assist as needed with the timekeeping approval.
  • Assist in promoting library materials and services, including the provision of adult, young adult, and children’s programs.
  • Handle routine problems and interpret rules and regulations.
  • Maintain cash records, prepare deposits and ensure the safe handling of cash.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and projects as required.
  • Share the responsibility for the physical appearance of collections and the Branch.
  • Assist in providing Readers’ Advisory Services, as assigned.
  • Assume responsibility for the Branch in the absence of the Branch Head Librarian or designate.
  • Perform Item Editor duties as assigned.
  • Produce and/or ensure the production of computerized reports for staff action re: holds materials.
  • Maintain statistical records and submit reports, as required.
  • Order supplies.
  • Notify service agencies regarding problems with the photocopier, cash register.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the classification as assigned.
Your education and qualifications include:
  • High school graduation or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Library Technician Course an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to perform a variety of circulation tasks at the Library Service Assistant 1/2 level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and supervise the work of others.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of people.
  • Ability to operate library equipment.
  • Keyboarding skills an asset.
  • Ability to handle cash accurately.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that are applicable to the area of work.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
