Job Description

On behalf of our client, Gardewine Group Limited Partnership, we are seeking a Linehaul Manager to join their team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Gardewine provides a cross-Canada fleet of transportation solutions to deliver anything from small parcels and perishable products to bulk goods and equipment. With a team of over 1600 staff and a large network of terminals and service points based in Manitoba, Ontario, and Saskatchewan, Gardewine ensures their customers’ freight is delivered at the most cost-effective price, safely and on time. Gardewine attributes its success to its dedicated people, for whom safety and health will always come first.Reporting to the Director of Linehaul, the Linehaul Manager is responsible for managing the Gardewine LTL and dedicated freight network between the terminals and their customers in the utmost safe and efficient way every day. Working with senior managers in each province, you will develop a skilled and experienced operations team whose goal is to minimize linehaul costs, manage linehaul schedules, maximize capacity, reduce partial trailer loads and ensure service integrity for assigned areas.Key Responsibilities:

  • As the ambassador of the Safety Program assist in the implementation of all safety initiatives including accident investigations.
  • Cultivate a workforce focused on providing exceptional customer service excelling in consistent on-time departures, on-time arrivals, correct staffing levels, and availability of equipment.
  • Assist human resources in all WCB/WSIB claim management, including a return-to-work program.
  • Develop and maintain a consistent and fair allocation of work between drivers and owner/operators based on miles, skill set, and tenure.
  • Monitor and process trip sheets ensuring the proper payment of work time and miles.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage key indicators including but not limited to cost per mile, empty miles, LCV utilization, use of third-party equipment, revenue per mile, temperature monitoring, and weight/cube on outbound terminals.
  • Compile daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports.
  • Work with driver services on an ongoing basis to inform them of any issues or concerns with drivers.
  • Manage trailer and tractor banks keeping track of utilization and productivity.
  • Ensure minimal equipment rentals through daily monitoring/management.
  • Present challenges, opportunities, and/or risks for the department, to the Manager/Director, as they arise.
  • Assist with training, development, and performance management of Linehaul team members.
  • Participate in Freight Claims Investigations as required.
  • Other duties and tasks that support departmental and organizational goals and objectives.
Skills and qualifications
  • 3-5 years of working knowledge and experience in transportation management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a multifaceted linehaul operation based on sound management principles and key indicators.
  • Act as the supportive force of knowledge for all standard operating procedures supporting the communication and training of SOPs to operational teams.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills and excellent relationship-building and communication skills.
  • Previous Class 1 driving experience will be considered an asset.
  • Must be available outside of scheduled work hours on occasion (not regular).
  • Travel may be required.
