Job Description

Let your career take flight by joining our diverse and vibrant team at the leading edge of passenger aviation.As part of Air Canadas Controllership team, the Financial Reporting department is responsible for the preparation and integrity of financial statements, and the management discussion and analysis that accompanies them, for internal and external reporting needs. The department also provides analysis and support to corporate-wide initiatives such as planning and other strategic initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Director of Financial Reporting, the position will participate in the performance and delivery of the full financial reporting cycle and other accounting projects.Responsibilities:

  • Partner with key team members for the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements for internal and external reporting purposes adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Prepare various analyses to support all internal management and external reporting requirements, including income statement, balance sheet, cash flow and MD&A, undertaken with curiosity and discipline to provide new insight for process improvements, promote accountability and control.
  • Support the ongoing development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures, including research and gathering of information to support adoption of new International Financial Reporting Standards ("IFRS")
  • Partner with subsidiary accounting teams in order to research and direct on accounting policies and financial reporting requirements for new business initiatives.
  • Collaborate in the development of solutions to satisfy the business requirements of the various Air Canada departments; integrating the requirements of Finance and other Branches.
  • Interface with the Financial Systems group in the system change process; resolving production problems, investigating requirements, identifying opportunities, developing solutions and providing testing and training to facilitate implementation
  • Develop and maintain a high level of proficiency in the use of financial systems and technology tools, in particular HFM Analyzer, and actively lead in best practices adoption of these tools for the Financial Reporting team.
  • Implement and maintain procedures to comply with internal control requirements.
  • Provide accounting, technical and analytical support as required
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Business or Finance is a pre-requisite
  • Completion of a recognized Canadian accounting designation (CPA) is required.
  • Sound understanding of generally accepted accounting principles in IFRS.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Prior experience in financial reporting is an asset.
  • Experience with Peoplesoft and internal financial systems such as Hyperion/HFM Analyzer would be an asset.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products with advanced Excel experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in team/project group environment
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organization skills to handle multiple projects, ability to shift priorities and work under pressure to meet strict deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to self-edit
