The Manager, Reinsurance ensures that all reporting requirements are met, and in addition, you will oversee the internal catastrophe modelling and liaisons with other departments as required on the model.Job ResponsibilitiesAdministers and monitors the company reinsurance contracts.Manages the monthly calculation of ceded recoveries – casualty, catastrophes and facultative.Manages the monthly monitoring of facultative placements by regional branches.Manages the monthly reporting to reinsurers.Monitors of earthquake exposure and alert management of EQ accumulations outside of acceptable range on a quarterly basisReports annual reinsurance and earthquake reporting to managementEnsures that the Regulatory earthquake filings are filed with government agenciesWorks extensively with external parties such as reinsurers and the reinsurance brokerWorks with reinsurance broker on annual catastrophe modellingOversees the internal catastrophe modellingManages the allocation of reinsurance premiumPerforms ad hoc requests from reinsurersIdentifies and recommends changes to our reinsurance program.Remains up to date on all regulatory and legal actions/decisions affecting insurance company operations in general.Manages performance of direct reports inclusive of providing professional and technical guidance, and provide regular performance reviews.Creates and presents the ceded budget including catastrophe projections annually to senior managementPerforms other duties and projects as assignedQualificationsUndergraduate university degree in Actuarial Mathematics, Statistics, Mathematics or other related field of study.A minimum of four actuarial exams would be preferred but not required.Minimum of 5 years of experience in an actuarial or claims related roleExtensive knowledge of the Property Casualty insurance industry and insurance operations in general.Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to understand context and its impact on all issuesIdentifies when something needs to be done and initiates action as requiredDevelops and implements comprehensive plans that bridge complex issues and span across timeStrong leadership skills with the ability to develop and communicate a visionCIP or ARe designation would be desirableWawanesa provides its employees with a respectful, challenging and rewarding environment where they can maximize their potential while contributing to the company’s goals.
