If you’re hungry to build a varied and meaningful career in a community of brilliant and diverse minds to make a real difference, there’s only one choice.Packaging & Logistics SupervisorThe primary responsibilities of this role are to manage the short- and long-term deliverables seed distribution, packaging, shipping of the combined Trait & Pipeline Delivery (TPD) Winnipeg Site. This role is integral to maintaining the Canola Trait Quality Standards. This position plays a critical role in maintaining our Freedom to Operate by ensuring that all processes and workflows are in compliance to regulatory requirements from corporate and government agencies pertaining to the handling and shipping of regulated and stewarded seeds. This role will supervise 2 year-round contract employees and up to 10 seasonal workers during peak season.This is a permanent position located at the Smart Park and Berry Street locations based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba.What you will do:

  • Responsible for all import and export permits, paperwork, and approvals required to ship and receive seed internationally.
  • Work with Canadian and Foreign government agencies to ensure required certifications and documents (including phytosanitary documents) are obtained in a timely manner and manage associated inspections and audits by these agencies.
  • Liaise with Global Trade teams for timely approvals of shipping approvals.
  • Supervise packaging assistants at both TPD Winnipeg Locations.
  • Hire, train, and supervise seasonal workers during spring and fall packaging seasons.
  • Develop a training plan for staff who will be assisting with seed packaging, including the development of clear, concise, and simple training tools.
  • Coordination of seed handoffs to partners, including managing approval meetings and data reviews.
  • Monitor seed production issues in Winter Nursery and develop contingency plans.
  • Liaise with Breeders, Planners, Nursery Designers, Winter Nursery Teams and Summer Nursery Team to develop nursery, increase and hybrid makeup process flows and timelines.
  • Generate seed availability reports for breeders, discovery scientists and nursery designers.
  • Develop process flows, protocols, and coordinate seed movement into and out of the central inventory system, including methods of assessing remaining seed quantities.
  • Serve as a Trait Quality Representative ensuring that there are no trait compliance issues related to seed movement.
  • Manage internal and external seed requests, and collaborate with the Germplasm Quality and Maintenance Coordinator where necessary.
  • Develop and implement a process for timely movement of seed from inventory into production facility.
  • Actively seek out process improvements for seed packaging and logistics operations to maintain compliance and improve operational efficiency.
  • Develop spring and fall packaging timelines and capacity.
  • Develop, measure, and visualize key performance indicators for seed packaging.
  • Conduct partner feedback review meetings.
  • Coordinate with growth room processing team to ensure timely movement of seed through the pipeline.
  • Coordinate with the OSR team in France to align protocols and procedures.
  • Champion safety, quality, and trait compliance initiatives.
Who you are:
  • Post-secondary education in the biological sciences.
  • 4+ years’ experience in biological science settings (laboratory, field, or growth room).
  • Strong understanding of breeding methodologies and practices.
  • Strong computer software literacy including experience with SharePoint and Teams as well as advanced Excel skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, concise, and actionable manner.
  • Highly motivated, results-oriented, with the ability to work with people individually or in a team to gain commitment to achieve those results.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functionally and delegating work within a matrix environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary/multicultural research team.
  • Possess a strong ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize daily tasks.
  • Adaptability and ability to learn new procedures, systems, and methodologies.
  • Valid driver’s license required
