At the University of Manitoba, what inspires you can change everything.The opportunity: The University of Manitoba is seeking Payroll Administrator who wants to grow their career within one Manitoba’s Top 25 Employers.Working for the Payroll department within Financial Services, which serves as the University’s central finance function, the Payroll Administrator is responsible for the payment of all staff at the University of Manitoba, and schedule generation when required. This is an exciting opportunity to run and apply and/or review completed payrolls, required balancing reports, required query reports to reduce errors, and complete all necessary reporting required for processing payrolls, as well as review and ensure the accuracy of government legislated deductions, and processing of non-regulated deductions. Under the supervision of the Assistant Manager, Payroll, the incumbent will be responsible for accurately processing/submitting and retrieving web-based Records of Employments within the Service Canada required deadlines, review/correct errors on commitment process for the assigned pay cycle and be responsible for solving difficult problems on overpayments and incorrect deductions. The incumbent will ensure that the Payroll Supervisor and Assistant Manager of Payroll are kept apprised of all problems/concerns relating to payroll production, accounting, administration, and transmittal to banks, and be responsible for answering questions pertaining to payroll and providing information to employees by phone or in person.The qualifications and experience we’re looking for: · Enrolment or completion of a recognized certificate program relating to Payroll administration (i.e. Canadian Payroll Association) is required· Minimum two years directly related full cycle payroll processing experience on a major computerized payroll system as well as familiarity with a client server based system is required.· The payroll system of the University of Manitoba is very complex and it accommodates many types of payments, rules, and exceptions, unique to the University environment, strong knowledge and experience with aspects of all payroll processing and general accounting is required.· Comprehensive knowledge of both Federal and Provincial government legislated (including but not limited to) deductions for Income Tax, Personal Tax credits, Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan, Union Contracts, and University Benefit Plans is required.· Comprehensive knowledge of government legislated miscellaneous payments and/or taxable benefit to individuals is required.· Experience in staff direction would be an asset.· An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. S· The ability to act as a team leader is essential.· HRIS VIP software knowledge is an asset. · Ability to adhere to set schedules, prioritize and meet strict deadlines is required. · Skilled in directing workflow and scheduling production jobs, required. · Efficient and accurate keyboarding skills are essential. · Good written and oral communication skills are essential. · Ability to work accurately at a quick pace and cope with a demanding workload in a customer service environment is required. · Must have strong Microsoft Office Skill (Excel Word Outlook).· Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with all levels of staff, maintaining good relations with other University departments is required. · Ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment is required. · Ability to effectively assist staff regarding: T4/T4A, overpayments, taxation problems, general payroll errors or enquiries, etc., is required. · Ability to problem solve is required. · Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required. · Ability to respect confidentiality of work is required. · Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service is required. · Knowledge of university policy and procedures would be an asset. · Knowledge of operation of general office machines (i.e. copiers, fax machines, etc.) is required. · Knowledge of Aurora Finance system would be an asset.· Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.Why the University of ManitobaAlong with being one of Manitoba’s top employers, we are proud to provide a collaborative and enriching work environment.
