We’re united by a shared commitment to excellent and equitable health care.Position OverviewUnder the general direction of the SUPERVISOR and while demonstrating a commitment to the Mission, Values and Management Philosophy of St. Boniface General Hospital, the PORTER / MESSENGER is responsible for: the physical movement (pick‑up, loading and/or delivery) of mail, parcels, reports, charts, lab specimens, X-Ray films, pharmaceuticals, medical and other supplies, carts, equipment, and other objects to and from all areas of the hospital complex and affiliated buildings on a scheduled, stat and/or unscheduled basis; and performing other related duties as assigned.ExperienceEducation (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Grade XII or recognized equivalent.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Must possess current certification from the Manitoba safety Council or will have to successfully obtain certification within three (3) months of employment for the following.
  • Must maintain certification in good standing.
    • Class III - Electric Motor Hand Truck, Lift Code 8 - Low Lift Walkie/Rider Pallet
    • Class III - Electric Motor Hand Rider Truck, Lift Code 3 - Tractor
    • Class III - Electric Motor Hand Truck, Lift Code 2 - Low Lift Walkie Pallet
Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Ability to retain information which is of a confidential nature.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Legible handwriting.
  • Good telephone manner.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, lift, twist and reach constantly throughout the shift.
  • Capable of moving heavy carts, weighing approximately 300lbs/140 kgs or more, throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift goods and equipment up to 75 lbs/34 kgs.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.Please note that an employee is not permitted to hold two or more positions across the WRHA legal entity that combine to equal more than 1.0 EFT.
