MITT is a post-secondary institute offering industry-driven, student-focused education in the areas of skilled trades, business and information technology, health care, and human services. We provide affordable, timely, skills-based education for learners seeking career entry as well as those looking to acquire relevant, in-demand competencies at any point in life.*Post-Graduate Sessional Instructor*Hourly Rate: Starting at $73.52 per hour depending on qualificationsLocation: Pembina Campus and/or remotely, as requiredPost - Graduate Instructors will possess the skills necessary to assist students in becoming successful learners. These skills include but are not limited to; the knowledge of respective disciplines, the use of learning technologies, including learning management systems, the creation of an effective learning environments, including on-line delivery, interpersonal skills, and the knowledge of how adults learn.MITT is seeking Post-Graduate Instructors for the following courses:IB-110 Canadian* Customs Procedures - Mondays, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, January 3 - April 14, 2023*Canadian Customs Procedures looks at the rules and regulations of the Canadian Customs Act, the Customs Tariff Act, the Excise Tax Act, Excise Tax, SIMA, and the Import-Export Act. Students will have an opportunity to prepare customs documents, while examining many other facets of customs such as transaction value, computed value, deductive value, goods akin, tariff classification, clearing and releasing imported goods, and exporting goods from Canada*BM-025 Software Skills: Word Processing - Tuesdays, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, January 3 - February 17, 2023*Students will familiarize themselves with Microsoft (MS) Word and develop skills to effectively utilize Windows navigational tool and files. This course focuses on working proficiently with MS Word processing features to develop professional documents.*GS-040 Skills for Effective Negotiation - Wednesdays, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, January 3 - April 14, 2023*This course focuses on issues in negotiation, including assessing personal negotiating skills and those of other parties, differentiating between distributive and integrative negotiation; establishing trust and building relationships; and power, persuasion and ethics. Skills for Effective Negotiation give students the opportunities to develop a personal negotiation style through role-playing simulations.*BM-045 Software Skills: Email and Scheduling - Mondays and Tuesdays, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, February 27 - April 14, 2023*This course will familiarize students with Microsoft (MS) Outlook and associated functions. Students will develop organizational habits and efficient practices to properly manage schedules. Topics include, time management, meeting arrangements and records management. This course will also cover email etiquette and professionalism.*Responsibilities include but are not limited to: *Planning and Preparation

  • Plan/adopt, implement, and continually review curriculum to ensure its appropriateness and currency.
  • Create, deliver, and refine courses in a Learning Management System
  • Organize classroom activities and processes (for both in-person and remote delivery) for the purpose of enhancing learning activities of students in both individual and group settings.
  • Develop and maintain accurate, informative and relevant student and administrative records.
  • Utilize materials and resources effectively in order to maximize benefits to students and to the Institution.
Classroom Environment
  • Create a positive learning environment by consistently demonstrating preparedness for class, by motivating students to accomplish educational and personal goals and by providing the opportunity to receive and act on student feedback.
  • Manage student behaviour and document relevant student concerns.
Instruction
  • Utilize appropriate and creative instructional methods (both in-person and on-line) to accommodate the learning styles of individual students.
  • Provide appropriate direction regarding issues concerning students educational goals and individual growth.
  • Use questioning and discussion techniques during instruction.
  • Engage students in learning.
  • Demonstrate the use of assessment and evaluation techniques.
  • *Interpersonal Relationships
  • Communicate with students in a fair and consistent manner and is approachable.
  • Mindful of individual differences in an atmosphere of respect and trust.
  • Assist students to meet their full potential.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other members of instructional staff.
  • Act as a guide for students interested in employment in the instructor area of expertise, when appropriate
  • Ability to understand student perspectives from other cultures; a working knowledge of intercultural communication theory
Professionalism
  • Serve as a role model for students with respect to citizenship and Work Skills
  • Maintain technical knowledge and expertise in order to deliver up-to-date, relevant curriculum content.
  • Foster, maintain and enhance ties to industry and business through active participation in appropriate committees, organizations and Program Advisory Committees.
  • Serve as an ambassador of MITT and contributes ideas to the overall goals, objectives and activities of MITT
  • Participate as an active team member by sharing in program specific activities, as well as MITT wide
*Required Q*ualifications and Experience: A combination of related education and experience may be considered.
  • Master’s degree in business or a relevant discipline
  • Minimum of five (5) or more years of relevant work experience discipline relevant to the course subject matter
  • Two or more years of experience teaching adults
  • Additional requirements may be identified for partnership courses or specializations
  • Excellent technical skills related to the use of technology in the classroom
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with others and exercise good judgment
  • Outstanding leadership skills and the ability to develop and build both internal and external partnerships
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan and work proactively
  • Ability to deal effectively in stressful situations where tact and diplomacy are needed
  • Ability to take initiative and work proactively
  • Ability to work well as a team member, demonstrating collaboration, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and embrace change
  • Ability to work well in small to large group settings
  • Ability to adopt and embrace a learner-centered approach to teaching
  • Strong intercultural communication skills
*Preferred *Qualifications and Experience:
  • Professional Certifications in the relevant discipline or subject area
  • Education degree
  • Adult Education certificate or diploma
  • Experience using D2L’s BrightSpace (MITT - Learning Management System)
  • Experience using remote delivery tools such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom
