We provide affordable, timely, skills-based education for learners seeking career entry as well as those looking to acquire relevant, in-demand competencies at any point in life.*Post Secondary Instructor, Electronics Technician*Term of Employment: June 9, 2022 to April 3, 2023*Hourly Rate: $51.71 to $70.36The Electronics Technician Post-Secondary Instructor possess the necessary knowledge, passion for their industry, and interpersonal skills to ensure an exceptional educational experience for adult learners. The Electronics Technician Post-Secondary Instructor will inspire and engage students through teaching relevant industry-specific content, using applicable learning methodologies and technologies, and fostering effective learning environments. Students graduating from the program will be confident and knowledgeable in both technical and soft skills, allowing for personal and professional growth, and leading to success in their current or future careers.As a role model for students, and as an ambassador for MITT, the Electronics Technician Instructor is committed to professionalism and leadership. They are dedicated to professional development in adult learning, willing to learn, grow, and develop instructional skills in an effort to provide masterful guidance to students.The Electronics Technician program develops students in gaining a flexible set of knowledge and skills that positions you for employment in industrial settings as well as careers in business and information technology. Through theory, lab exercises, and hands-on projects such as construction of a power supply using electronic test equipment, fabrication equipment, and soldering you will learn the fundamentals of electronic and electrical components, and the devices and circuits used in industrial settings. A work practicum placement gives you an opportunity to apply what you’ve learned and add to your skill-set through a real-world work experience and participation in MITT’s Work Skills Series workshops gives you a solid foundation in the employability and essential skills employers demand.

  • The term of employment is from June 9, 2022 to April 3, 2023, or the day before the employee being replaced returns to work.
*Responsibilities include but are not limited to: **Instruction, Preparation, Planning*
  • Instruct course using MITT curriculum; utilize appropriate and creative instructional methods, such as lectures and demonstrations to accommodate the learning styles of individual students; enhancing the student learning experience and ensuring engagement in learning activities;
  • uses relevant technology to support instruction; including the use of MITT’s Learning Management System and remote learning tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams
  • continuously checks in with students to ensure they understand course material and are able to retain the information they learned;
  • prepares course outlines, including course timetabling within the academic year, learning outcomes, and assessment and evaluations;
  • prepares, administers, and evaluates assignments and assessments; provides marks and feedback to students on their assessment items in a timely manner to ensure they have time to learn and improve;
  • plans lessons and classroom activities, consistently demonstrating preparedness for class;
  • fosters accountability, teamwork, and collaboration in students, preparing activities that focus on both individual and group work;
  • Conduct research related to curriculum; continuously reviews curriculum to ensure its appropriateness and currency; works with MITT’s Educational Developers, Program Manager, and Academic Coordinator to formalize curriculum changes.
  • Implement and adopts curricular changes, willingly adjusting course materials in order to meet Institutional needs.
  • Coordinate Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placements for students, preparing WIL materials, and conducting on-site visits to ensure students are meeting the needs of the placement company/organization. Creates alternative capstone-type WIL projects for students who do not meet the WIL requirements for a placement and in the case of an unforeseen occurrence that warrants students not frequent on-site placements.

  • serves as a role model to students, demonstrating employability skills and subject matter expertise in their own professional conduct, values diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom
  • Demonstrate approachability and a desire to help, encouraging trust and lines of communication with students:
  • provides appropriate direction to students regarding their own educational and individual growth goals;
  • maintains professional boundaries with students as a mentor, leader, and manager;
  • provides fair, supportive, and consistent feedback to students to assist them with accomplishing their educational goals;
  • manages inappropriate student behavior according to the Institution’s policies and procedures.
  • Encourage students to succeed and learn from failures, extinguishing discouragement and disappointment, and instead fostering personal and professional growth to help students reach their full potential.
Administrative
  • Maintain and enters accurate and relevant student information and records in the Student Information System and MITT D2L BrightSpace (Learning Management System) ensuring information is entered in a timely manner.
  • Provide information and updates to the Registrar’s Office when necessary.
  • Participate in staff meetings.
  • Adhere to and utilizes MITT’s policies and procedures
  • Ensure safety and proper use of equipment and supplies, ensuring regular servicing and maintenance, and managing inventory.
  • Effectively manage classroom materials and resources
Institutional Collaboration and Participation
  • Utilize Student Services supports, referring students to Student Services when necessary.
  • Communicate and collaborates with other members of instructional staff, either in the same program area or another program.
  • Participate as an active team member by sharing in program-specific activities, as well as Institution-wide activities.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments to enhance the student experience and contribute to the overall goals and activities of the institution
  • Serve as an ambassador of MITT, supporting the goals, objectives, and activities of MITT.
  • Willing to serve on committees responsible for academic and faculty matters.
Professionalism and Professional Development
  • Provide the opportunity for students to give feedback on their educational experience, encouraging continuous improvement of instructional methods and the overall program
  • Review and evaluate one’s own teaching and learning strategies and methodologies to ensure self-assessment and continuous improvement.
  • Attend trades seminars and workshops, whenever possible, to keep current with industry and educational requirements.
  • Maintain technical knowledge and expertise in order to deliver up-to-date, relevant curriculum content.
  • Foster, maintain and enhance ties to industry.
  • Committed to ongoing professional development in adult learning principles and methodologies.
*Required Qualifications and Experience: *
  • Post-secondary diploma from a recognized institution in electronics or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of recent, industry-related work experience
  • Experience in training and facilitating adults
  • Experience working in a supervisory position
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in adult learning principles and methodologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent technical skills related to the use of technology in the classroom
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with others and exercise good judgement
  • Outstanding leadership skills and the ability to develop and build both internal and external partnerships
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan and work proactively
  • Ability to deal effectively in stressful situations where tact and diplomacy are needed
  • Ability to take initiative and work proactively
  • Ability to work well as a team member, demonstrating collaboration, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
  • Degree or diploma in adult education is considered an asset
  • Experience in instructing adult learners, including classroom management, designed and implementing student assessment and evaluation tools, and lesson planning, is considered an asset
  • Experience with Microsoft Office is considered an asset
  • Experience using a Learning Management System is an asset
  • On-line/blended learning teaching experience is an asset
