THE ORGANIZATIONEstablished as a National Charitable organization in 1994, Canada’s National History Society (Canada’s History / CNHS) encourages all Canadians to share their stories and contribute to our collective understanding. We believe that our past is what shapes our future, and it is only by understanding our past that we can really understand who we are and prepare for a better future.The Society oversees the Governor General’s History Awards, annually recognizing the outstanding work of teachers, academics, museums, community groups and popular storytellers. The Society’s work includes Canada’s History magazine (formerly The Beaver), Kayak: Canada’s History Magazine for Kids, CanadasHistory.ca and HistoireCanada.ca. A growing Youth Channel now includes more than a thousand videos created by the next generation of Canadian storytellers.The Society engages more than 2 million readers of all ages using compelling and informative stories, videos and digital content. Our audience reflects the diversity of contemporary Canada. Millennials, represent 38% of the Canada’s History audience while Gen Z accounts for 27% of our readership. Thirty-one percent (31%) of our readers were born outside Canada and 14% speak a language other than English or French at home.Headquartered in Winnipeg with a 17-member professional staff, the Society is governed by a 12-member national, volunteer Board of Directors. It has an annual budget of $3.0 million with revenue derived from publishing, government contributions, and charitable gifts.THE POSITIONBring your passion for Canada to this unique organization dedicated to deepening Canadians’ interest in and understanding of their histories. The President & CEO of Canada’s National History Society will lead the overall vision and strategic direction of the organization. In addition to monitoring key developments and opportunities for growth and stewardship, the role involves setting program goals and priorities, annual budgets, providing hands-on leadership; creating, implementing, and participating in a fundraising plan; identifying potential partners and revenue sources and working with volunteer fundraisers to execute the plan. The President & CEO is the principal spokesperson for the organization and drives its communications, government, and donor relations strategies.This senior management role requires the President & CEO to work as a leader who upholds and promotes organizational values, develops and implements timely strategies and initiatives that are aligned with the overall strategy, and nurtures a positive, collaborative and communications-oriented work environment.RESPONSIBILITIESStrategic Direction & Vision
