Job Description

Valard, is Canada’s premier utility contractor, as well as head of the Valard Group of Companies AND part of the Quanta Group, the largest electrical power contractor in North America. Valard has full‑service capabilities for transmission, distribution, substations, foundations, telecommunications, and renewable energy.Reporting functionally to the Program Quality Manager Substations and operationally to the Project Manager, this position will be responsible for supporting the quality control work, inspecting completed work, issuing reports on findings, & maintaining files to ensure that the work performed meets the quality standards established by the customer.RequirementsSpecific Accountability:

  • Perform pre-, during, and after construction inspections evaluating appearance and customer experience.
  • Inspect the work performed by our crews and subcontractors before the final customer walkthrough to ensure all specifications have been met.
  • Complete Quality Sheets forms as necessary and submit them into the Company’s database timely and accurately.
  • Follow Company Quality Manual, project-specific Quality Plan, and Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Execute quality assurance and quality control activities on the project site.
  • Support all team members on Quality-related matters and ensure Valard meets the requirements of the applicable Contract, Client Standards, Provincial and Federal Regulations, and Code(s) of Construction.
  • Liaise with cross-functional groups within Valard, as well as the designated client and subcontractor quality personnel on quality matters for the project.
  • Review of all full and partial assemblies/installations for completeness and conformance to IFC drawings and applicable specifications.
  • Ensure identifying and tracking any damaged or material issues. Work with the materials coordinator (as applicable) to ensure nonconforming materials are repaired or replaced in accordance with IFC drawings.
Work Experience:
  • Experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control.
  • Strong background in reading and interpreting technical documents such as engineering codes, standards, specifications, construction drawings, and other related documentation.
  • Advanced experience in computers and technology with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) as well as Adobe Acrobat.
  • Experience using BlueBeam Revu is considered an asset.
  • Experience using SharePoint is considered an asset.
  • Willingness to work/train in fiber optic splicing is considered an asset.
  • Experience in monitoring civil, structural, and electrical installations.
  • Preferred one year of experience in a technical or QA/QC role in the construction industry, with a minimum of one year of field-related experience.
  • Technical background with sound knowledge of Quality Management Systems and related ISO standards.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driver’s abstract.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:
  • Self-starter who would go the extra mile to get the information needed for the best performance in any given circumstances.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems, specifically construction-related.
  • Knowledge of typical construction project processes such as RFIs, Change Management, Field Instructions, NCRs, Walk-Down, Commissioning, Turnover, “As-Built” drawings.
  • Excellent administrative, planning, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to be assertive in situations as required.
  • Ability to maintain traceability of many complex documents electronically.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and maintain confidentiality when required.
  • Ability to be resourceful to troubleshoot and solve problems and issues as required.
Education:
  • Candidate must be local to the Winnipeg area
  • High School Diploma preferred
  • Apprenticeship program or other certifications (such as CET) is an asset, particularly Electrical‑related
