Job Description

Under the direction of the Superintendent of Planning and Portfolio Management the Relocation Specialist manages movement of items (books, furniture, etc.) at the request of the departments. This includes scheduling, coordinating, monitoring, recording and assists where required in the moves. The position also organizes and oversees the City’s storage facility, maintains records of inventory, and coordinates disposition of furnishings and equipment according to City of Winnipeg’s policy and procedures.In addition, the Relocation Specialist assists the Architects / Interior Designers with simple to moderately complex two-dimensional facility drawings related to move requests received from the departments.As the Relocation Specialist, you will:

  • Prepare simple to moderately complex AUTOCAD drawings, and estimate resource requirement for moves.
  • Coordinate movement of items in response to requests from client departments.
  • Maintain records of all moves of assets on the computer and work order sheets, supervise work of contracted movers, and verify monthly invoices received from contractors against hours worked.
  • Organize and coordinate the use, maintenance and distribution of inventoried items at the City’s storage facility.
  • Arrange for, and monitor distribution of new furniture as directed by the Portfolio Management Analyst.
Your education and qualifications include:
  • Completion of courses on two-dimensional AUTOCAD functions.
  • Completion of courses on Estimating Procedures, Local Moving and Office Moving from the Canadian Association of Movers is considered an asset.
  • Experience preparing simple and moderately complex two-dimensional drawings utilizing AUTOCAD and reading and interpreting AUTOCAD drawings.
  • Experience coordinating moves and/or delivery of furniture.
  • General knowledge of building codes.
  • Ability to direct and supervise the work of contractors.
  • Ability to review invoices, reconcile with hours worked and make recommendations for payment.
  • Ability to deal with changes/problems that affect items’ movement, and the ability to decide immediately, without an opportunity for consultation, to implement a new course of action.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to train subcontracted movers.
  • Ability to work with systems furniture.
  • Superior organizational skills, including the ability to schedule and coordinate large numbers of requests for moves, under severe time restrictions.
  • Written communication skills with the ability to prepare documentations related to duties of the position.
  • Verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly with stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and maintain working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite – Outlook, Excel, Word and ability to learn new systems.
  • Proficient using MAXIMO program within six (6) months.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to the operation of the section within six (6) months.
  • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and the safety precautions that are applicable to the positions’ area of work within three (3) months.
  • Knowledge of all operating departments, location and the organization of each, within a reasonable timeline.
Conditions of employment:
  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • A Winnipeg Police Service Level 2 Security Clearance satisfactory to the employer will be required from the applicant(s) or successful candidate(s).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License. The successful applicant will be required to provide a driver’s notice in force document upon request.
  • The successful applicant(s) will be required to provide a vehicle for transportation while on City business, subject to the terms and conditions of the City Transportation Policy.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours/varied shifts including weekends and extended periods of time.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
