Job Description

NOVA HOUSE IS LOCATED IN SELKIRK, MANITOBA.Full time Position available12 Hour Shift Nights Available(nights, weekdays, weekends, holidays)SUMMARY OF POSTIONResponsible to the Executive Director of Nova House and directly reporting to the Staff Supervisor in accordance with Nova House’s mission, vision, goals, policies, and procedures the Residential Support Worker/Child Care Assistant (RSW/CCA) functions as a member of a team in providing services designed to assist women and children in crisis from domestic and/or family violence. The RSW/CCA will adhere to the values and mandates of Nova House and support the strategic direction of the organization. Every effort will be made to maintain standards and best practices that strive from a client-centered and strength focused philosophy and that encourages self-awareness, self-worth, confidence building, and increased independence without judgement and that is in the best interest of the women and children we serve.EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Awareness and understanding of issues pertaining to domestic/family violence and abuse, particularly to the cycle of abuse and the profile of an abuser.
  • Awareness and understanding addictions, and mental health.
  • Ability and patience to care for/work with children aged newborn – 17 years old.
  • Clear understanding of confidentiality must complete PHIA training,
  • Boundary management and how to create a supportive relationship with clients.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, and support management.
  • Highly developed and demonstrated communication skills with clients, co-workers, peers, volunteers, and supervisors.
  • Assessment skills - particularly crisis intervention and related emotional support.
  • Able to meet the physical demands of the position (lifting, cleaning etc.)
  • Flexible to meet the demands of a 24/7 residential care facility.
  • Current CPR, Emergency First Aid, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate.
  • Clear Criminal Record and Adult/Child abuse registry check.
  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
  • Manage accurate and timely data entry and maintain required computer skills.
  • Responsibilities pertaining to the health and safety of our clients such as cooking and cleaning, including but not limited to, room searches, bag searches, bed bug checks, head lice checks and treatment support.
  • Provide crisis intervention, emotional support and advocacy to women and their children at risk of abuse who are residing at Nova House as well as telephone and texting support through our crisis lines and other online sources.
  • Assist in the life skills and childcare departments which will include helping to prep and serve meals, and provide childcare as needed
  • Conduct phone assessments to determine service needs to ensure that the provisions are maintained to uphold our mandate.
  • Ensure that structured intake, departures, and all documentation are completed accurately and using the outlined procedures.
  • Able to resolve and mediate conflict and/or deal with frustration and anger using non-violent techniques, critical thinking, and sound judgement.
  • Cleaning the shelter in all areas, such as but not limited to, mopping floors, vacuuming, laundry, removal of garbage and recycling, donation sorting, dusting, cleaning windows etc. *This is a position that does require a fair amount of cleaning, lifting and the ability to go up and down stairs multiple times a day.
Pension and Benefits, shift premiums available.COVID-19 considerations:PPE provided such as: gloves, masks, eye shields, hand sanitizer.Extra COVID cleaning policies and procedures in place.Schedule: 2 on, 2 off, 3 on, 2 off, 2 on, 3 off.
