As a perennial “Top Manitoba Employer”, the WAA prides itself as an organization that attracts engaged employees with the right skills, in the right place, and at the right time. https://www.waa.caJob Title: Seasonal Maintenance Specialist AirsideReports to: Manager, Airfield ServicesTerm position starting late October 2022 - mid/late April 2023Closing Date: September 2, 2022The OpportunityReporting to the Manager, Airfield Services, the Airfield Maintenance Specialist maintains and repairs all aircraft operation surfaces. This role assists in providing a safe environment for our aircraft, the travelling public and cargo at our 24 hour operation. This seasonal role is to maintain the airside area during the winter season. The terms will be in effect from late October 2022 – mid/late April 2023 which may be extended by mutual consent based on operational requirements.Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and repair all aircraft operating surfaces including by not limited to security fencing, gates, signage, roadways, painting of markings, landscaping, snow/removal, and wildlife control;
  • Operate heavy and or medium sized equipment on active and inactive runways in close proximity of other equipment;
  • General maintenance and minor repairs on equipment;
  • Application of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals at application rates prescribed by others;
  • Ability to maintain radio contact and operate under radio direction with the Airfield Duty Manager and air traffic controllers;
  • Carry out ice control on roads, parking and service areas within the Winnipeg Airports Authority; and
  • Provide support to the airport emergency services in areas of crowd control, shuttling services, clearing access ways in the event of an emergency.
Selection Criteria includes:
  • Must provide driver’s abstract and have a valid Class 3 driver’s license with Air Brake endorsement (Class 1 driver’s license desirable);
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a restricted radio/telephone license;
  • Ability to acquire and maintain Airport Vehicle Operator Permit “D” (AVOP);
  • Ability to acquire and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card
  • Ability to acquire a Possession and Acquisition License (PAL);
  • Minimum of 2 winters experience in the operation of heavy and/or medium equipment;
  • Experience/knowledge of airport operations considered an asset;
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the operation of heavy and/or medium equipment;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the operation and repair of winter and/or summer maintenance equipment (experience with airport specific equipment considered an asset);
  • Ability to assess and evaluate the operational condition of equipment;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety practices and procedures;
  • Physically able to perform manual labour as required (lifting/pushing weight up to 50lbs, walking and shoveling snow and/or gravel as required);
  • Effective oral and written communication skills;
  • Effective interpersonal skills;
  • Proven attendance and reliability;
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask;
  • Ability to prepare basic reports and use MS Office Suite;
  • Ability to work shift work in a 24/7 environment; and
  • Minimum of Grade 12 education or equivalent.
