Job Description

Date: October 31, 2022Position Title: Supervisor, Pet ShopReports to: Manager, Behaviour & RetailRate: $15.05-$19.98Classification: Union, Unit 5Hours: Wed 11:15am-7:15pm; Thurs – Fri 9am-5pm; Sat & Sun10:30am-6:30pm(40 hours /week)Days/Time of shifts could vary/changeStart Date: ASAPClosing Date for Internal Candidates: November 5, 2022Position Summary:The Retail Operations Supervisor is responsible for promoting and selling retail items inthe Pet Shop at The Winnipeg Humane Society as well as managing the online storeand all related ecommerce. They will provide cashier services to WHS clients, re-stockand price inventory, and oversee ordering of retail merchandise for the WHS Pet Shop.The Retail Operations Supervisor will collect and review online orders, prepare onlineorders for pick-up and delivery, and monitor back-end processes such as customerservice, logistics, and payment. This position is expected to foster a high standard ofclient service, frequently communicating and working with Society staff, management,volunteers, suppliers, and vendors.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop knowledge about other services provided by the Society and find
opportunities to match available services to interested clients
  • Handle cash and cash balancing
  • Provide direct and constructive feedback to staff in a timely, respectful manner
  • Deliver feedback to Manager Behaviour and Retail Operations regarding staff
and service issues
  • Delegate duties to staff to ensure smooth delivery of all services
  • Work with other staff and volunteers as required
  • Support evaluation of customer feedback and optimization of processes and
systems to continually improve customer experience
  • Processing retail sales and other transactions on computerized cash register
  • Receive, inventory, code, and price retail products
  • Open or close of Pet Shop as part of daily routine
  • Stock shelves and participate in general upkeep of the Pet Shop
  • Daily monitoring of order management including returns, inventory issues,
payment issues etc.
  • Support back-end payment operations
  • Ensure packaging inserts and shipping processes run smoothly
  • Update retail site as required
  • Order inventory in Manager Behaviour and Retail Operations absence
  • Move merchandise and fixtures from storage areas to the Pet Shop, unloading
deliveries as requested
  • Conduct periodic counts of retail merchandise, including year-end December
31 or January 2 each year, with the possibility of more times during the year
  • Pricing, coding, and packing retail inventory for display
  • Set up and take down retail displays for special events as required, including
transporting of fixtures and merchandise in WHS vehicle
  • Greet clients promptly and courteously and determine their service requirements
  • Resolve customer inquiries in a timely manner
  • Offer exemplary customer service and coach and mentor staff on customer
service expectations
  • Communicate with Manager Behaviour and Retail Operations to ensure
merchandise is available at the Pet Shop
  • Any and all administrative retail duties assigned by Manager Behaviour and
Retail Operations which may include creating and entering new inventory codesinto computer system
  • Other duties as reasonably assigned

Education, Training & Knowledge:The following are mandatory qualifications for this role:
  • 2+ years successful experience in a supervisory position including purchasing,
merchandising, sales, and promotion
  • 2+ years of retail ecommerce operations experience
  • Prior successful experience supervising retail employees
  • Experience cash handling and balancing record
The following qualifications are desired and would be considered assets:
  • Demonstrated experience in front-end and back-end operations for retail
ecommerce
  • Experience with market & customer analysis as well as ecommerce best
practices
  • Demonstrated experience in online sales strategy
  • Previous experience using various platforms to conduct digital sales
  • Previous experience working with volunteers
  • Access to a vehicle preferred
