Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator Campus Applications Solutions, the Supervisor of Corporate Applications will plan, coordinate, and supervise all activities related to the architecture, design, development, and implementation of corporate information systems and software applications. The Supervisor of Corporate Applications is also responsible for maintaining, supporting, and upgrading existing corporate systems and applications. This individual will apply proven leadership skill, software development skills, communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to guide his/her assigned development team on day-to-day and long-term issues related to the design, development, support, and deployment of mission-critical information and software systems.Flexible work arrangements may be available under Administrative Standard AS-018 - Flexible Workplace; subject to review and approval.As the Supervisor of Corporate Applications you will:

  • Plan, organize, and lead the development, deployment and ongoing maintenance of new applications, systems software, and/or enhancements to existing corporate applications for an assigned portfolio.
  • Supervise and mentor software developers, contracted staff and related resources.
  • Lead the architecture and design of complex application systems.
  • Prepare detailed solution proposals, architectures, and project estimates, based on collaboration with business analysts, subject matter experts, system owners, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop detailed application development, testing and systems management plans.
  • Establish and administer software development, quality assurance, and maintenance standards, policies and procedures.
  • Provide input into the development of the departmental and divisional annual and strategic business plans.
  • Act as liaison with other campus departments and divisions to provide I.T. information for their business plan.
  • Provide technical and business process improvement consultation for departmental initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with Worker’s Compensation Legislation, Human Rights Legislation, safety regulations and safe work practices.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the position as assigned.
Your education and qualifications include:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Information Technology related discipline or equivalent training and experience.
  • Must have excellent computer programming skills with at least 5 years of recent software development experience.
  • Must have at least 2 years of recent experience with Microsoft .NET programming languages and excellent knowledge of related frameworks, tools, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of web-based technologies.
  • Knowledge of SQL and Oracle relational databases.
  • Experience leading and mentoring software developers.
  • Ability architecting and designing complex application systems.
  • Experience preparing documented solution proposals, and detailed estimates for project plans.
  • Experience leading testing and quality assurance functions.
  • Ability in planning application support and operational sustainment of systems.
  • Knowledge of application development and support trends, industry practices, and related product capabilities
  • Knowledge of formal project management and business analysis methods are highly desirable. Related certifications are an asset.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to analyze information and formulate plans.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and procedures that is applicable to the area of work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
