Certificates for Instructors

  • Swim for Life Instructor (required)
  • First Aid Certificate (preferred)
  • CPR Certificate (preferred)
  • Lifesaving Instructor (preferred)
Certificates for Lifeguards
  • National Lifeguard (NL) (an asset)
  • Standard First Aid Certificate (preferred)
  • CPR C Certificate (preferred)
Additional Skills
  • Leading/instructing groups
  • Leading/instructing individuals
  • Provide feedback to parents
Specific Skills
  • Lead groups and individuals in different swimming levels
  • Ensure health and safety regulations are followed
  • Demonstrate and instruct all levels of the Red Cross swim program
  • Understand principles of group dynamics
  • Assist clients/guests with special needs
  • Plan and carry out recreational, fitness and sports activities
  • Ability to manage classes of up to 4 participants
