Job Description

Systems Administrator Opportunity Emerge Knowledge Design Inc. is the environmental technology company that delivers Re-TRAC Connect™, the leading waste diversion software system that sustainability professionals trust to efficiently collect, manage, and analyze recycling and solid waste data.Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for general systems administration, including system configuration management, building, monitoring, OS upgrades, security updates, and urgent system patching of Linux based servers.
  • Managing and supervising the IT help desk and providing technical support to company staff
  • Coordinating procurement for all IT related matters such as hardware and software licenses to meet organizational objectives
  • Create scripts to automate and/or bootstrap infrastructure provisioning and management tasks
  • Develop and execute contingency plans for hardware and software failures including isolated and major outages
  • Evaluate application performance, identify potential bottlenecks, develop and implement solutions with the help of IT team
  • Configure, manage, and monitor our internal user management system (Openldap), DNS (Bind), Phone system (Asterisk VoIP) and mail system (Exim, Rspamd, Clamav)
  • Build, configure, and manage server infrastructure both on-premises and in the cloud (AWS EC2, Proxmox)
  • Perform regular security audits and security updates and keep up-to-date on all issues and industry best practices
  • Work closely with Senior DevOps team members to setup and deploy infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code/IAC tools [Terraform, Chef, Git, AWS CLI, RHEL Kickstart]
  • Create and maintain IT documentation, standards, and procedures
  • Perform testing of company Backup and Recovery services (including Disaster Recovery)
  • Participate in and contribute to regular DevOps team meetings and other duties as required
Who you are:

Nice to have: - Experience with automation tooling and configuration management tools (Chef, Ansible, Terraform, Fabric, etc.)- SQL administration and debugging queries (MySQL)- Programming languages (Ruby, Node, Python, PHP, etc)- Containerization experience (Docker, Podman, etc.)- Experience with web servers and load balancers (Nginx, HAProxy, ELB, etc.)- Mail flow and routing (Exim, Rspamd, ClamAV)- Monitoring and logging infrastructure (Nagios, Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)Qualifications: - Minimum one (1) year experience as a Unix/Linux system administrator (RHEL/Rocky Linux/CentOS or other Linuxenterprise operation system)- Minimum one (1) year of experience with scripting in at least 2 languages (e.g. Bash, Python, etc.)- Strong networking experience and troubleshooting (TCP/IP, Routing, DNS, LDAP, SMTP, IMAP, SIP, etc.)- Strong knowledge using Version Control Systems Git- Minimum one (1) year experience working with Virtualization (Proxmox, KVM or Virtualbox) and/or cloud-based services(AWS EC2, S3, ELB)- Strong understanding of mail flow and routing (DNS, SMTP, SPF, IMAP, DKIM)
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in an applicable field preferred
Additional Information:
  • This is a full-time permanent position (40 hours/week) during standard Monday to Friday office hours (with occasional after-hours schedule)
  • Salary range: $50,000 - $69,000 (annual) commensurate with experience
  • Location of work will be on-site office in Winnipeg and/or combination of on-site office and remote (in Winnipeg) pending company needs and current public health orders. We are located in the Exchange District near transit.
