We’re united by a shared commitment to excellent and equitable health care.Position OverviewDirectly accountable to the supervising journeyman, the Trades Helper performs a variety of duties in and around buildings and grounds of the complex to assist tradesmen and other workmen. May be assigned to a trade related specific activity or may be working towards a formal apprenticeship to journeyman proficiency. Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (e.g. utilizing personal, protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies their Manager or their designates (i.e. supervisors) of all occurrences, injuries illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers, or any others who enter the premises.Experience

  • Experience gained in the related trade that may be judged through experience to a level of an uncertified tradesman.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • High School Graduation or qualifies for enrolments under the Apprenticeship and Tradesman Qualifications Act.
  • Any course of study or training gained in the related field.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
  • Valid class 5 drivers license.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Demonstrates knowledge and support of:
    • The vision, values, goals, and objectives of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and the Deer Lodge Centre.
    • The Deer Lodge Centres Mission Statement, Residents Bill of Rights and Code of Conduct.
    • Personal Health Information Act, Protection of Persons in Care Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS), Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts.
  • An understanding and knowledge of the work requirements of the trades.
  • Knowledge of the use and application of various building materials.
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading and schematic drawings.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to perform duties that vary frequently according to assignments.
  • Ability to evaluate information against measurable criteria.
  • Ability to work in an environment respecting the privacy and rights of patients/residents that may be encountered in carrying out duties.
  • Alertness and thoroughness, tact, courtesy and cooperation.
  • Good judgement must be exercised in the safe operation of all tools and equipment. Safety standards must be met at all times.
  • Interest in development of manual skills and an interest in training programs.
  • Skills demonstrated by the trial method as demonstrated by performance.
  • Ability to work in a computerized environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Mentally and physically capable of performing all job requirements.
  • May be required to work extended hours.
  • May be required to work in extreme weather conditions.
  • May involve exposure to disease, radiation, toxic materials, noise, allergens, etc.
  • May encounter aggressive and/or agitated patients/residents/staff/visitors.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred.
