Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Registration and Assessment Supervisor, the Community Relations Representative is responsible for providing information and education about how to utilize Winnipeg Transit using a variety of IT tools, social media platforms, and interactive activities. The position is responsible for enhancing community relations with the citizens of Winnipeg.The position is responsible for research and updating and developing comprehensive transit travel training programs appropriate to differing levels of comprehension for a variety of audiences. In consultation with and with the approval of the Supervisor and Manager of Communications, the position is responsible for the communication design/content of all material and ensuring it is aligning with Transits marketing plan.The position works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to enhance and develop new partnerships. This position will be the subject matter expert in knowledge of Transit and Transit Plus services and will be the public face, navigating media inquiries and acting as an ambassador for Winnipeg Transit while presenting these programs. This role is responsible for building and strengthening community relationships for the Transit Department and the City of Winnipeg.The Community Relations Representative will be responsible for guiding staff, volunteers and students assisting with Community Relations Representative duties, events/presentations and programs.As the Community Relations Representative you will:

  • Maintain, update, create, and present materials/information and provide demonstrations to clients regarding Transit and Transit Plus Services.
  • Provide and organize community outreach opportunities to promote Transits reputation and build strong community relations.
  • Provide training and will collaborate with staff and external students, volunteers and/or stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned consistent with the position description and general functions of the position.
Your education and qualifications include:
  • Post-secondary education in a related field (i.e. communications, business, humanities, education) or a Certified Adult Community Educator (CACE) certificate. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Customer service experience including conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience developing or updating comprehensive training and communications material and utilizing same to deliver effective classroom and field training sessions or presentations.
  • Experience using web-based apps (i.e. Navigo) and various social media and messaging platforms (i.e. Microsoft Teams) to access and provide information and demonstrations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make effective decisions in a timely manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departmental personnel, members of outside agencies and the general public.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to maintain records and coordinate and schedule classroom and field training sessions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook at an advanced level.
  • General knowledge of Transit and Transit Plus Services is desired.
Conditions of employment:
  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • A police Information Check including vulnerable sector check satisfactory to the employer will be required from the applicant(s) or successful candidate(s), at their expense when requested.
  • Manitoba Class 5 F Drivers license in good standing. A Class 2 license is considered an asset.
  • Must have or obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR and AED certification.
  • Must complete Canadian Urban Transit Certificate as Ambassador Trainer, Travel Training Course with Easter Seals and/or approved equivalent within time frame specified by management.
  • Must be able to work varied shifts as required by the position.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position.
