This is an out-of-scope position with Supervisory responsibilities.Reporting to the Director of Care, the Unit Manager will enhance the effective management and quality of care delivery and nursing practice in keeping with the Code of Ethics and Standards of the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba/College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM/CRPNM) or College of Licensed Practical Nurses, Manitoba Health Long-Term Care Standards and Extendicare Care Inc. Standards.RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures resident care is provided within established nursing standards and principles, physicians’ orders, and administrative policies.
  • Uses the Nursing Process to assess residents and develop, implement, review, and evaluate individualized resident care plans including the provision of care to residents. Monitor residents’ health, notes change in condition and assess need for referral to doctors; processes and implement physicians’ orders, including medication administration and treatments. Observe, report, and record vital signs, symptoms, and conditions of residents, and initiate remedial health measures where appropriate.
  • Plans, directs, supervises, and evaluates the work of Health Care Aide staff
  • Organize, deliver, and direct functions and activities related to provision of care to residents including restorative care, quality of life activities and palliative care as required.
  • Demonstrates charge and leadership skills
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Current Registration with respective college.
  • Nursing Experience 3-5 years within Long-Term Care setting, 2-5 years Clinical experience.
  • Supervisory/Management experience of minimum 5 years. Ability to supervise and direct the work and learning of others.
  • Previous managerial experience involving supervising and working within a unionized environment.
  • Must be knowledgeable in principles and have experience with continuous quality improvement / risk management processes and philosophy of long-term care.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form with staff, residents, families, and external service providers.
  • Has knowledge related to current and applicable Manitoba health legislation and standards, PPCO, workplace safety and health, knowledge/experience with MDS
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with comprehensive knowledge of nursing in the areas of wound management (SWAT certified WRHA/equivalent), infection control, dementia care, least restraint, and zero lift practices
  • Current (within 6 months) Criminal Record Check & Adult Abuse
  • Mentally and physically able to perform duties as outlined.
  • Demonstrates concern and interest in providing quality care to residents.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete assignments in a timely manner. Strong organizing, planning, prioritizing, time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Promotes a safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors, knowledgeable in principles of infection control.
  • Current CPR Certification.
