Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Research and Marketing Coordinator, the Web Services Specialist supports the strategic delivery of a diverse range of Community Services Department-based services, projects, and initiatives. The position is responsible for designing, building, monitoring and editing the Department’s web (Intranet and Internet) presence. The Specialist works to ensure the Department maintains a functional, innovative, current, and customer-focused internal and external web presence. This position may also provide graphic design support.As the Web Services Specialist, you will:

  • Design, develop, implement and monitor the Department’s websites for both the Internet and Intranet.
  • Work with Research & Marketing and Community Information teams and departmental subject matter experts to develop, implement, evaluate and improve the multi-media component of service delivery and communication plans.
Your education and qualifications include:
  • Diploma/Certificate in Web Design or Digital Media Design or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Diploma in Advertising Art or Advanced Graphic Arts considered an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years of prior related work experience.
  • Experience coding for multiple devices, including smartphones, tablets, and desktops.
  • Experience using HTML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and client-side programming, such as Javascript and Ajax.
  • Proficiency in ASP, XML and JavaScript library (e.g. jquery) is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of web design standards, responsive design, UI/UX principles, and accessibility design standards.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Dreamweaver, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat).
  • Willingness and ability to stay current with emerging digital trends within the digital creative community.
  • Excellent design sense, along with a methodical attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficiency working in a server environment.
  • Familiarity with web search facilitation concepts and tools.
  • Knowledge of Content Management and Collaboration software support, or ability to acquire within six months.
  • Ability to think critically and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience writing content for the web considered an asset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and function effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to initiate, plan and complete assignments with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate to accommodate deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills, with demonstrated ability to work in a high-stress, multi-task environment involving tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
