Join our team of Manitobas best as we continue to build a company that supports innovation,commitment and customer service.Reporting to the Wholesale Power Marketing Section Head, the Wholesale Power Officer will be responsible for identifying andpursuing wholesale power opportunities in the US and Canada and negotiating wholesale power contracts, selling renewable energycertificates, purchasing carbon credits, and researching and participating in other developing renewable industry market trends.Responsibilities:
  • Provide detailed financial, strategic and risk analyses to support wholesale power sales and purchase opportunities.
  • Prepare detailed financial analyses of contract terms under various scenarios and sensitivities to support contract negotiations
and work closely with legal in drafting necessary agreements.
  • Collaborate with leadership in identifying and securing new sales and purchase opportunities with wholesale power customers
including the development of power products, customer proposals and wholesale power evaluations.
  • Actively support, and at times, lead teams responsible for negotiating long-term wholesale power agreements including border
accommodation agreements.
  • Work in collaboration with Asset Planning & Delivery and Wholesale Power Trading to optimize the sale of surplus energy and
capacity by assessing and analyzing long-term and short-term opportunities.
  • Actively negotiate and sell Manitoba Hydros surplus renewable energy certificates and work with legal in drafting the
supporting master renewable energy certificate purchase and sale agreement and transaction confirmation.
  • Pursue the purchase of economic carbon credits to meet Manitoba Hydros emission targets set by the Federal Governments
Output-Based Pricing System Regulation.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with new and existing wholesale power customers including investor-owned utilities,
cooperatives, municipals, power marketers, crown utilities and industry leaders.
  • Actively promote Manitoba Hydros clean and renewable power within the US and Canada.
  • Participate in inter-departmental working groups and advocate on behalf of Energy Markets Division business to ensure
corporate strategic goals are consistent and benefit all Manitoba Hydro customers.
  • Participate in the resolution of US and Canadian regulatory issues and developments which impact Manitoba Hydros
wholesale market business.
  • Support the oversight of Canadian and US regulatory and state governmental affairs as they relate to Manitoba Hydros
wholesale business, including following and reporting on energy developments in Canada and the US that may have animpact on Manitoba Hydros access to wholesale markets.
  • May be required to support contract administration duties which include but are not limited to negotiating key contract terms
for new master agreements, supplemental agreements and annexes with customers and administering the portfolio of masteragreements and written contracts with wholesale power customers.MANITOBA HYDRO IS COMMITTED TO DIVERSITY AND EMPLOYMENT EQUITY Reference Code: CO56680115-01Qualifications:
  • A four-year degree in a related discipline (Commerce, Business Administration or Economics) from an institute of recognized
standing plus a minimum of six years of directly related financial experience.OR
  • A recognized Professional Designation (CPA or CFA) plus a minimum of three years of directly related financial experience.
  • A Masters degree in Business Administration would be an asset.
  • Possess a high degree of initiative with strong organizational skills, a demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a
team environment, diplomatic and possess mature judgment.
  • Possess an understanding of the international wholesale power marketing business including market drivers, industry trends,
transmission tariffs and related business practices.
  • An understanding of the operation of Manitoba Hydros generation system including hydro system capabilities and limitations
and Manitoba Hydros transmission interconnections into the export marketplaces.
  • Possess a strong but pleasant and tactful personality and have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be capable of adapting to rapidly changing conditions both within Manitoba Hydro and the energy marketplace.
  • Must be prepared for occasional travel outside of the Province of Manitoba for customer and other marketing meetings and
activities.
  • Must have completed Standards of Conduct training or be willing to complete within two weeks of start date.
Salary RangeStarting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
