MA MAWI WI CHI ITATA CENTRE, INC.INTERNAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITYJuly 14, 2022Position Title: Wi Che Win Community HelperClassification: Term to March 31, 2023 (extension-dependent on funding)Location: 800 Selkirk AvenueSalary: Subject to Qualifications

  • Background: The Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre Wi Che Win Program is seeking a Community Helper for a term position to March 31, 2022. The Community Helper is required to work as part of the Wi Che Win team to provide program support services to program participants. The activities shall range from scheduling, organizing, and preparing drop-in programs. This position reports directly to the Wi Che Win Program Manager.
Brief overview of some expectations are as follows: Identify and recruit community resources; elders, educators, facilitators, and knowledgeable individuals who can do workshops and learning sessions for program participants.
  • Organize workshops on a regular basis on topics such as: addictions, basic life skills training, handling strong emotions, interpersonal communication, problem solving, handling conflicts, budgeting, decision making, boundary setting and family relationships.
  • Maintain monthly records and stats detailing all relevant activity with respect to program activities.
Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of the practices of the Centre
  • Working knowledge & experience in mental health, homelessness, social work, substance abuse, housing & community development.
  • Knowledgeable and familiarity with the Rental Tenancies Branch and the legislation relating to landlord/tenant relations
  • Demonstrates ability to develop effective working relationships with individuals struggling with mental health issues.
  • Demonstrates ability and comfort to effectively build relationships with individuals who are homeless and dealing with mental health issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess people for strength and challenges, particularly in the context of mental health
  • Demonstrated ability to work with crisis situations and conflict resolution
  • Microsoft Word and Excel program knowledge
  • Understanding and ability to document Financial Records
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must be willing to be a team player
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle would be an asset
  • Must have current Police and Child Abuse checks
  • Must be vaccinated against COVID19
