We are currently seeking a Deck Laborer to join our team.The Deck-Laborer will carry out all the day-to-day associated with the Laborer function. Work and cooperate with all external and internal customers to ensure a high level of customer service.Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide friendly and helpful customer serviceLoading tarping & securing freight to flat deck trailersOperating a forklift, clearing and keeping the deck area cleanComplete freight handling and loading activitiesHandle shipments accordingly to standards to minimize claimsMaximize delivery efficiencies and load factors by optimizing time and load handlingMonitor and complete bills of lading and other shipping documentsPerform all work in a safe manner and comply with all Gardewine safe work practices, policies, and proceduresOther duties as necessary to meet the goals and objectives of the deckQualificationsIdeally you high School diploma with minimum of one years’ experience working in a fast paced and deadline driven logistics environment, specifically with freight. Must have vehicle. Must be able to work offsite. Must be able to operate forklift. Class 1A driver license is an asset but not required. Flat Deck Loading and Tarping experience required but not necessary. Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. Proven demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision all the while being a team player.Physical RequirementsPhysical demands of Dock position are above average and able to work outside in all-weather condition. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs from floor to shoulder, bend and twist consistently, standing and walking all day. Need to have a good sense of balance with hand and foot coordination with ability to assess weights and judge distances and heights.
