Job Posting (EXTERNAL) Youth Mental Health and Recreational Services Student Worker Huddle Broadway–533 Broadway, Winnipeg, MBThe Canadian Mental Health Association Manitoba and Winnipeg, is part of a 100-year-old nation-wide non-profit organization that promotes the mental health of Canadians and supports the resilience and recovery of people experiencing mental illness. Our mental health promotion team provides education to create opportunities for people to know and attain a life that leads to flourishing.Our Youth Hub team provides opportunities for youth, caregivers, and families to know and attain a life that leads to thriving in a one-stop-shop environment that provides immediate service and referrals to partners who can support them through life’s challenges.The Opportunity We have two, full-time (term) opportunities for students aged 15 – 29 who rely on summer employment and meet the criteria of The Urban Green Team guidelines found at: https://www.gov.mb.ca/grants/pdf/greenteam_guidelines.pdfThe Positions The Youth Mental Health and Recreational Services Workers will assist in the creation and delivery of mental health integrated recreational activities in a summer day camp setting for youth between the ages of 12 and 16 years of age. The Huddle Broadway Day Camp will combine curriculum designed to promote mental health and well-being with experiential learning and recreational activities to assist participants to understand their own mental health, build capacity to maintain resilience and well-being and promote wellness within their personal communities and support networks. Successful candidates will assist Huddle staff in the co-production and design of the curriculum, develop and practice their facilitation skills and be responsible for the co-delivery of course materials to participants attending the day camp.The work week will be typically around 35 hours; however, hours may vary week-to-week. The wage scale for this role will be based on skills and experience.The Responsibilities

  • Assist in co-production and design of mental health, substance abuse and well-being curriculum with youth hub staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist in the collection of participant information and provide internal referrals for service at the youth hub
  • Assist in the development and delivery of recruitment materials in local high schools
  • Prepare and deliver curriculum daily to participants enrolled in Mental Health and Well-Being Day
Camp
  • Co-Facilitate activities with youth participants both at the youth hub and in the community while adhering to all safety and COVID-19 restrictions and protocols
  • Demonstrate understanding of cultural diversity and work effectively with individuals with various backgrounds including culture, sexuality, gender, and ability
  • Contribute to agency-wide initiatives to advance the mission and purpose of the organization
The Qualifications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with presenting and facilitating to diverse audiences
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principals
  • Knowledge of child and youth mental health
  • Knowledge of the impact of stigma
  • Demonstrates competence in cultural safety and works effectively with individuals with various backgrounds
  • Applicants must have both a recent, satisfactory criminal record check with vulnerable sector search and a child abuse registry check
  • Preference will be given to candidates with a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
The Accountabilities
  • Assist in the collection and maintenance of participant information as well as statistical information to support the fund development for programs
  • Participation in regular team meetings
  • Achievement of project goals and expected outcomes
  • Position will assist Youth Hub Peer Facilitator and participate in additional tasks as assigned.
