This position falls within the Collective Agreement Band 5 Salary Scale of between $45,869.88 to $55,799.34.Youth Mental Health Promotion Initiatives Thrival Kits™ were developed in 2017-18 through a partnership between the CMHA and the Manitoba Advocate for Children and Youth (MACY) in collaboration with Manitoba teachers. Thrival Kits™ is a mental health promotion initiative that is delivered by classroom teachers to students in grades 4 – 6 and is designed to increase mental health literacy and promote wellness of students by introducing a variety of evidence-based strategies throughout the school year. With the investment of provincial funding Thrival Kits™ reaches 8 to 12 year olds providing the opportunity to use creative expression, self-reflection, skill development and pro-social communication strategies to build an understanding of the importance and practice of positive mental health contributing to both personal and classroom well-being.The Youth Mental Health Promotion Coordinator position is responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Thrival Kits™ plan and supports program enrolment, communication, orientation, distribution of supplies and program enhancement, to allow for a seamless transition to a growing number of Thrival Kits™ participants.Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and support the implementation of the Thrival Kitsâ„¢ program in collaboration with MACY in schools across Manitoba. Engage and support Thrival Kitsâ„¢ Leads and Facilitators in their delivery of the program throughout the school year.
  • Design and deliver Thrival Kitsâ„¢ training and orientation sessions for educators and school clinical staff.
  • Co-develop evidence-informed educational workshops, toolkits, and training for youth programs, services and initiatives.
  • Promote awareness of mental health issues and support stigma reduction in schools and communities.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues, management, community partners, school educators, school administration and youth communities in a multi-disciplinary approach to mental health and well-being for youth.
  • Participate in evaluating the effectiveness of programs and services and track trends in youth mental health and behaviours; and offer recommendations of potential new initiatives based on information collected.
  • Use innovation to increase engagement with youth, stakeholders and communities. Utilize all social media platforms and technology, including the use of a virtual classroom to convey strategic youth mental health messages, for promotion, awareness and increased mental health literacy.
  • Track project performance to analyze and report on the successful achievement of short and long term goals.
  • Monitor trends and current research in youth mental health and mental health promotion and make recommendations to apply best practice knowledge within the program.
  • Participate in team meetings and committee work that aligns with the program and agency strategic plan.
  • Contribute to agency-wide initiatives to advance the mission and ends of the organization.
Qualifications
  • This position requires a three year completed post-secondary education at the undergraduate level in human services related disciplines such as Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or Education and two years of experience in a youth focused community-based organization
  • Demonstrated competence in cultural safety and works effectively with individuals from various backgrounds
  • Experience with community engagement, networking and outreach
  • Knowledge and experience in the principles and practise of health, mental health, mental health promotion and harm reduction
  • Excellent written and oral communication including group facilitation and public speaking
  • Superior project management and coordination skills
  • Bilingualism (French, Cree, Ojibwe, etc.) will be considered an asset
  • Applicants must have both a recent satisfactory criminal record check and a child abuse registry check, along with a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
