Job Description

Q-Line has been awarded the Canadian Top Medium Fleet Employer for the last 3 years!We are currently looking for an experienced Dispatcher to join our Acheson team. Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, the Dispatcher is responsible for dispatching and monitoring assigned truck drivers and equipment for scheduled loads.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIESOperations Accountabilities

  • Oversees and directs their fleet of drivers based on daily needs, and coordinating and assigning specific tasks, instruction, and guidance.
  • Looks to maximize truck productivity, including:
  • Maximizing total miles for their fleet
  • Maximizing loaded miles for their fleet
  • Maximizing revenue per mile
  • Coordinates with planning, sales, and dispatch teams to organize and move freight.
  • Confirms ETA’s, destinations, appointments, etc.
  • Completes all PARS (Pre-Arrival Review System) and PAPS (Pre-Arrival Processing System) on time to ensure no delays for drivers.
  • Schedules, dispatches, and monitors driver and equipment workloads and locations according to customer requests, specifications, and needs.
  • Communicates issues or a change of pickup/delivery to CSR/Planner immediately
  • Monitors driver and equipment locations and utilization to coordinate service and schedules to minimize empty miles.
  • Aids drivers in troubleshooting difficult situations.
  • Exchanges information with customs brokers to prepare and obtain customs clearance.
  • Facilitates border crossing and customs by following appropriate documents and procedures.
  • Adheres to DOT, FMCSA, CBP, and CBSA regulations and procedures.
  • Updates reports with routed miles and allocated trip revenues.
  • Complete all required Axon tasks on or before the required timeline.
HR/Safety Accountabilities
  • Oversees driver time-off and returns-to-work (vacation, appointment time, sick time, leaves of absence) and communicates with HR as required.
  • Acts as a first line of contact with drivers and ensures regular communication occurs with them.
  • Works with HR department; ensures all their driver random drug tests are scheduled and completed within appropriate timelines.
  • Interprets and resolves complaints or disagreements from drivers concerning loads, schedules or other relevant conflicts which arise.
  • Works with Driver Mentor, Fleet Manager, Senior Operations Manager, and the HR department on driver performance concerns.
  • Monitors the driver’s daily logs to ensure that they follow hours of service regulations.
  • Assists the safety department in ensuring that a vehicle’s cargo is secured according to the Cargo Securement regulations.
  • Ensures the safety department is made aware of any safety incidents or hazardous work conditions.
  • Working with the safety department, monitors driver safety records.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • CCLP designation considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in transportation industry
  • Technical ability to understand and use transportation industry programs and business operations systems (i.e. Microsoft Office).
  • Moderate oral and written comprehension required.
  • High attention to detail required.
  • Effective time management & planning skills required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Moderate decision making and problem solving required to comply with last minute loads, special projects, or accommodating driver schedules for emergencies.
  • Must be available outside of standard business hours where required
