Job Description

This position is responsible for the direction of the Finance and Accounting functions of Powell Canada, located in Acheson, AB. Powell Canada and its divisions, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Powell Industries, Inc., headquartered in Houston, Texas. The duties will include financial, operational and oversight reporting for five divisions operating in Canada. This positions reports to the Operational Controller of Powell Industries with a close working relationship with local division management in Canada.The Division Controller will act as a Business partner to provide ongoing financial guidance and assistance to Division management and staff, to improve business processes, profitability, and working capital management. Coordinate and lead the annual Strategic Plan, Budgets and Forecasts with division management to project the operations performance. Assistance in the evaluation of major capital expenditures and other investments is required.Essential ResponsibilitiesManage the monthly and quarterly closing, internal and external audits, and financial reporting; assuring compliance with Corporate policy, GAAP and SOX.Work closely with project management and the operational teams to monitor project performance and profitability .Review all major asset and liability accounts for proper classification and valuation.Manage contract revenue and cost accounting for compliance with GAAP, including contract accounting (percentage of completion, completed contract.Coordinate efforts between the accounts receivable staff and the Division sales and project management staff to improve the timeliness of collection.Assist in the development and maintenance of inventory accuracy, including physical verification, valuation and excess/obsolete reserves.Provide Division management with financial analysis and guidance in understanding the business drivers and how to improve profitability and working capital.Provide cost accounting services, including information to assist in pricing decisions .Lead and participate in teams to improve processes and performanceQualificationsMinimum 7 years experience as division controller in a manufacturing and/or service company. Experience in companies with revenues over $60M+ preferred.Minimum four year degree in Accounting, CPA, CMA or MBA (preferred).Experience in leading the monthly close and reporting processes, budgets and forecasts.Experience with an ERP system (Oracle preferred).Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.Able to prioritize and manage time effectively (self-motivated and self-managing).Honest, full and open disclosure, integrity.Ability to anticipate issues and take preventive/corrective action.Experienced Supervisor (professional staff) and ability to delegate effectively.Analytical - macro (financial trends, comparisons, relationships) and micro (getting to "root cause").Professional curiosity and continuous learning.Ability to partner with all levels of the organization.Working ConditionsTemperature controlled working environment.
