Job Description

SMS Equipment is GROWING! We are looking for Journeyperson Electric Motor System Technician to join our Reman team located in Acheson AB. SMS Equipment has a unique specialization in the electrical rewind business for highway and mining equipment. In this role, the incumbent will maintain, modify and repair AC and DC electric motors for some of the largest mobile equipment.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Diagnose problems and dismantle electric motors, transformers, switchgear, electric welders, generators and other electrical and mechanical equipment for servicing, modification and repair.
  • Remove and replace shafts, bearings, commutators and other components, referring to blueprints or service manual as required.
  • Wind and assemble various types of coils for electric motors of transformers and reinstall them.
  • Balance armatures or rotors, weld and braze or solder electrical connections, and align and adjust parts close to tolerances to reassemble items
Qualifications:The successful candidate will have a Journeyperson Electrical Motor Systems Technician trade’s ticket for Alberta. The incumbent will have 2-3 years’ related industry experience with specific knowledge of the Komatsu product line and other products SMS Equipment currently services. Additional qualifications include:
  • Knowledge and ability to enforce compliance with safety rules and regulations; to minimize industrial injuries and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Organize resources and establish priorities.
  • Planning and organizational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and complete projects.
  • Work independently and / or as part of a team.
  • Great mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate quality assurance programs in area of specialty.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including tact and diplomacy with a variety of individuals and groups.
