Job Description

At SMS Equipment, our Payroll Analyst is part of our hard-working Payroll team. This role will be processing Hourly employee Payroll. The incumbent will also assist with labour rates, extend mapping, and reconciliations. The incumbent will also be responsible for post pay responsibilities such as: remitting garnishments, ROE’s, Journal Entries, Employee Inquiries and UKG Audits.This position offers a hybrid work environment.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Day-to-day payroll and remain up to date on current procedures and processes. Administer and interpret diverse and complex payroll and benefit regulations. Ensures appropriate records are maintained to support payroll and HR department. Ability to process payroll related changes and verify the accuracy of the data from systems.
  • Audits rates, premiums and hours extracted from the eXtend ERP system. Audit monthly Social Club report, quarterly benefit deduction and taxable amounts as well as the quarterly RRSP/TFSA contributions. Assist with annual budget preparation and delivery. Prepares monthly, quarterly and year end reporting by assisting with preparation of T4s and T2200s.
  • Create and edit BI reports in Ultipro Business Intelligence. Creates and edits simple and complex BI reports for the payroll team. Creates, maintains and stays up to date on triggers and alerts for the payroll department.
Qualifications:The successful candidate will have a post-secondary diploma in Accounting or Business Administration, PCP certification (i.e., working towards Payroll Management Designation with the Canadian Payroll Association a plus), and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience. Additional qualifications include:
  • Requires advanced knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, vlookups, complex calculations, quick formatting and short cuts).
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Full working knowledge of payroll and benefits regulations, legislation, and collective agreements
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively deal with all clients and internal/external agencies in the resolution of problems.
  • Requires excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
